I totally and utterly agree. Went to see this on Friday afternoon and really enjoyed it, apart from THAT ending. I found it to be your typical Sci-Fi B Movie fare. Yes, I have seen better films but I have also seen so much worse in the same vein. So, it was derivative. So, the aliens looked like they'd been ripped from some popular films and games of recent years. So, the script was pretty damn poor, but hey, this is a Science Fiction film that lovingly ticks all the boxes of what makes an enjoyable nonsense Sci-Fi romp and apparently made for around ten million dollars. If that is really true, I'd love to see what else they can do with that kind of budget and a better script, though how they are going to continue the story for an apparent follow up in 2012, I do not know, not without holding head in hands in despair. To be honest, I don't understand why reviews are panning it so much as it's in a different league to Sy-Fy's output & better than most budget Sci-Fi that gets thrown straight to DVD. I also enjoyed it far more than Transformers 2 which was for me, an unbelievable mess of a film, which makes me quite sad as I thought the first one was great and made me feel as excited about giant robots as I was when I was 10 years old!

I personally think it worked as well as it did because it didn't try to be something other than what it is, 90 odd minutes of Sci-Fi nonsense. And it was a crap load better than Spielberg's take on War of the Worlds, something which could have been amazing if he'd stuck to the original story in the correct time period. (When I first found out he'd taken it on, I really thought we may see the cold horror of the original story with the look and feel of Saving Private Ryan, though, the 13 minute build up to the reveal of the first Tripod and initial attack sequence I thought was nigh on perfect, after that you can pretty much turn it off).

I love my Sci-Fi & my special effects, (practical & CGI, which I trained in but never got that break into the industry... sigh...), and found that Skyline did serve up some fantastic effects work, a couple of sequences which spring to mind were artistically and cinematically truly beautifully and stunning.

So, if anyone's curious, don't take it too seriously, it's not trying to change the world of Sci-Fi cinema or re-write the rules and it sure as hell won't be the worst film you've seen... maybe!

Back to Topic... Green Zone... What did that quote say on the poster? 'Bourne goes Epic?' Erm, I think you mean Bourne goes Boring... really boring... and badly directed... with awful, truly awful action sequences. I'd quite happily slap the cinematographer of that film and also shake the hand of the person who cut the trailer together for managing to cheat so many people out of their money by advertising a completely different film... Sod...

Just went to see the new Harry Potter film. It can be summed up in one word.
      Pointless.

Where as i went to see it this evening & thought it was awesome, it stuck rather close to the book which i was really pleased about. I did cry like a bitch at

        Dobbys death

I have read the books so i know what was coming but even mentally preparing for it didn't help when they showed it on screen the tears just fell, big manly tears LOL.

I just thought it really dragged. Nothing really happened for a film of that length.

Last night I watched House which is a Japanese ghost story from the seventies.

It's got to be one of the strangest films I've ever seen which is really saying something but I really enjoyed it. It may sound and look bloody awful when you read this post but I absobloodylutely loved it.

It's difficult to know what to say about it without spoiling it but it's about a group of Japanese school girls who visit a creepy house that belongs to one of their estranged relatives.

The girls are called Melody, Fantasy, Kung Fu, Gorgeous, Prof, Mac & Sweet. Melody is really musical, Fantasy keeps imagining things, Kung Fu does Kung Fu etc, etc.

This is where it gets difficult to explain but as it get's dark the house starts eating them one at a time through the objects in the house such as a lamp shade. Whenever one of them gets eaten their clothes fall off, I don't understand it but that's what happens.

              It's a musical...sort of. With martial arts...sort of.

Ah, just watch this will you...

Add in a bit of this...

Also, a man gets turned into bananas!

Yeah House is utterly bizzarre. Fairly funny in parts though.

I finished watching all of the American Ninja movies. The strange thing is that the one part I remembered seeing as a kid wasn't in any of them!

I clearly remember a bit where an old Japanese guy took a newly born baby and threw it into a pool to see if it could swim - I think they were saying that was the birth of a ninja or something. Thing is, if it wasn't from this series of films then where did I see it? I hope it wasn't the Karate Kid 3 or something, lol

The same guy played the hero in the first two movies, then the 3rd was a new guy but with the same supporting actor, the 4th had both the heros in it, and the 5th was the 3rd guy on his own again. The second was maybe the most fun cos they were clearly just playing the whole thing for laughs. They all sucked though.

I watched some film called Fire Up or Fired Up about 2 football jocks who go to cheerleader camp in order to score with lottsa hot chicks.

For some bizarre reason I liked it - perhaps being drunk helped!

I thought football jocks always got the hot cheerleaders anyway?

At my mum and dads last night for a chinese and my dad had Descent on, on Film 4, as he thought it looked it good even though i told him it was total crap. Cue an hour later, the TV turned over with my dad shouting in frustration at the screen about a bunch of stupid women running around like headless chickens in a pitch black cave. I did warn him

On a happier note we then found Inside Man on ITV 2 which was pretty good. Never seen it before and when Clive Owens mug appears at the start i thought it was going to utter ****e as he has as much charisma as a piece of 4x2. But Denzil and Jody were in it and it was a worth a watch.

I liked the Descent, good movie. Guess I'm easily amused.

I watched Salt yesterday, decent blockbuster type affair. Forgettable but entertaining.

And I just watched Red Riding: The Year of Our Lord 1974. Very good UK TV crime drama, there's 2 more parts which I will watch tomorrow.

                            Darkman.

                            Incredibly rubbish but oddly enjoyable

I saw Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 1 at The Electric in Birmingham, where we had a sofa and enjoyed some Hogwarts-themed cupcakes topped with Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans.

I really enjoyed it! I fully agree that it suffers from "part-1-syndrome", but there's still plenty of action, drama, tragedy and humour to make it worth seeing.

Can't wait for the final part!

Watched The Sorcerer's Apprentice last night. Was really looking forward to it from the trailers. Hmmm, it was OK but not up to my own hype.

The dweed they had as the 'hero' really spoilt it for me, his manner and diction just failed to deliver anything other than a mumbling idiot with special effect powers. He just wasn't a beleivable character (it was Jay Baruchel if you want to stalk him and being him down)
