Originally posted by nakamura View PostWatched Mindhunters the other night. Very enjoyable thriller with some sparkling of funny gore. Not a huge movie person but this is one I would watch again.
Bunch of trainee FBI profilers go to a training camp to practice tracking a serial killer, only to find one of the team members is a real serial killer... dun dun duuuuhn!
It's no 7even, but had us guessing all the way through and there were some harsh deaths (re-instated after getting an R rating even after cutting the gore).
The only downside is that in trying to constantly double-bluff and hide the real killer, a few characters ended up looking guilty and we had to rewind a couple of bits. Probably should've been concentrating more.
It's directed by Renny Harlin who's done some great films like Die Hard 2, Deep Blue Sea and The Long Kiss Goodnight and some real stinkers like Cutthroat Island and Driven. There's no middle ground with this guy!

Watched:
District 13 Ultimatum - not as good as the 1st. Too over the top with the matrix, physically impossible parkour bits. I really enjoyed the parkour in the original as it was all real & kept the story more believable. Kinda copied the original in many ways & fizzled out at the end.
The Incredibles - meh. Felt like James Bond sequences mixed with Endor/Tattooine chase sequences mixed into a very slow story, with Mission Impossible music thrown in & an art style that copied the Batman animations from Warner Bros of the 90's

I watched Skyline and... well, it depends. Personally I'd say it's certainly not a great film but the reviews for it are pretty laughable. As a film goes it uses the Independence Day story as a base and makes a simple 1hr 30m action film out of it. There's not much characterisation in it but then there never is in this type of film. I actually kind of liked that they used TV actors in it as though they're still recognisable they aren't the same old faces we usually see on screen.
As has been said, the effects and action are done well though too much has been made of the rich kids scenario as it is basically only 1 character who has the money and is hardly shoving it in peoples faces throughout. As far as the '15hrs earlier' section of the film goes after the opening... well, that's a huge amount of fuss over nothing. Exposition in a film? Whatever next. It literally lasts all of 15mins of the runtime and flies by, there's nothing that shocking about it. It's basically people trying to survive in the apartment block in a situation that's inescapable.
Easily the biggest failing is the ending. This is one of those films that should end a scene before it does. The story kind of ends in a better way that the likes of ID etc but then continues a little longer and goes into really stupid territory that really undermines everything. I'd say, that though it's nothing special the most obvious thing is that the reviewers were against is anyway due to the Straus Brothers involvement so it could never win anyway. They've only made 1 film previously which was AvP2, that too wasn't a great film (though I still thought it better than AvP1)

Saw a few more films over the weekend, I enjoyed most of them, which was cool......
Lottery Ticket
Didn't know what to expect, but i always enjoy watching comedies that focus on the hood. It was directed by Ice Cude, which gave a few nods to his classics such as 'Friday.' This film was a light hearted comedy that stared Bow Wow, and as the title suggests revolves around a lottery ticket. Bow Wow did an ok job of his role. I enjoyed it for what it was and good to see Cube back doing his thang on screen. 6/10
Risky Business
Never seen the film, but heard about it growing up, a bit dated now, but the premise still remains. It wasn't bad, and the female lead still looks hot for an 80s chickIt felt slow in parts, but the soundtrack was classic! I can now see where Tome cruise got his dancing inspiration from in Tropic Thunder lol........ which I also watched in the weekend lol...... Overall 6/10, probably would have been higher if I watched it when it came out back in the day.
The American
Didn't know anything about the film, but was VERY slow paced and I didnt really know what was going on, but George Clooney plays his role as a spy well enough. Not what I was expecting, as it felt like a film for the maturer adult, as in 40+ as the pace and setting were very much of the more aged. The film had its own charm, but was ok to watch, and took a different slant to the typical bond type of secret agent. 5/10

Watched a few recently,
Urban Legend & Urban Legends: Final Cut:
UL1 is OK, mediocre Scream-style fodder that suffers from a terrible ending but is reasonably watchable, forgettable popcorn fodder if you aren't after anything outstanding. UL:FC is proper gash, just a terribly made film that tries to coast by on geeky film school talk but fails to be any good in any way whatsoever. UL1 - 5.2/10, UL:FC 2/10.
Let Me In:
Haven't seen the original but this US remake is quite a well-made, well-acted little film but it lacked a certain something, plus gf was quite scared by it (!) and she gets funny with me when she's stressed, 'blames' me for the film, so I was on edge and didn't really appreciate it as I was expecting the familiar backlash afterwards (which I got, ho hum). 7/10
Also watched Children Of The Corn. Quite badly dated now, it's a not-very-effective The Wicker Man-style flick. The twat in the hat/midget kid was quite good though, best thing in it. 5.37/10.

It's exactly how you imagine it would be. Very very funny, painful and a bit wrong.
The stunt before the finale was so many shades of wrong...
All things considered, there was some inventive use of 3D and slo-mo!
