I've not heard of it, I don't buy UK BDs
My brother had this with some HD DVDs though, incredibly dumb!

I've had that problem a few of times and not just there. I know that the tags are there for a very good reason but they're a right pain to get out when you need to.

In the past I've gone back and got them to remove it but a the moment for me it would have been a bus journey of about 10 miles at about £5 so I thought that I'd just have a go myself.

I'd never seen them before so I didn't realise they went under the centre claps that holds the film in. I was just one slip away from knackering the blu ray, if I had ruined it would have made the 10 mile bus journey then and arrived in a suitably pissed off condition to complain.

Are you managing to pick them up at a reasonable price at the moment? I only have a region A player (PS3) and I'm really not keen on paying the prices at the moment - lots of films I'd have already if I could get them at pre-financial collapse pricing.

Actually, UK Blu-rays have been coming down in price quite heavily of late.

If you're fortunate enough to live in the North West, there are still Zavvi stores up in both of the main cities which are currently selling off each blu-ray disk they have for about £9 each (and no, that's not just the crappy ones which play and amazon have in their "WOW, WE HAVE BLU-RAYS FOR UNDER 10 POUNDS!!!!!11" offers)

Yeah, I'm at the point where I'd like to start picking up some bargains, but without the ability to play region locked UK BRs I can't really do that. Contemplating a second PS3 or just a standalone player at the moment.

They're a fair bit more recent than that, they definately have 2009 stock as I picked up a copy of Bender's Game from the Manchester branch about 3 weeks ago.

Also, on a slightly unrelated issue, can anyone recommend this for a calibration noob? I've given the THX ones on my star wars DVD a go, but I'm guessing they're only really any good for standard def.

You might already know this Daragon but you can access basic screen setting cards on any Sony Blu-Ray. You access them by entering 7669 in the menu (brought up with triangle on your PS3, not the disc menu).

I think the 4 are (these scroll but can be paused) ...

                      1. Colour/black level
                      2. Resolution
                      3. Greyscale/contrast
                      4. Can't remember

... but have a check around for definites.

I'm a total noob with visual settings so I watched a vid online to understand how to set these up.

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware of such a menu so will check it out!

Did anybody pick up Equilibrium in the end? Is it any good?

Play.com have a funky 2 for £22 on loads of discs and I want to know if Equilibrium is worth a punt.

Also, Zatoichi has a menu that only runs in 50Hz. Is this going to be okay if I'm using a Jap 60G PS3 running through HDMI?

No, probably not. It depends on how the disc is authored, but when you try and select 50hz items on a 60hz PS3, it basically pauses for a sec, then acts like you didn't do anything. In other words, it just skips over the command.

If the disc is authored with a command that says "Go to menu", then you're probably stuffed. If it's authored saying "Go to menu, Go to film" it might be OK.

Is Canadian version of Pinocchio Blu-ray ok to buy as I need subtitles on it.

The US version is subtitled so the Canadian should be.
