Never imported with them but shopped there a bit and if the online is like the stores they are great.
Are we the same region as OZ ? I might get my dad to pick this up and post it out to me

      Thanks,

Europe and Australia are both region B and it's not that unusual for different versions of the same film to go on sale there. This seems to be about the only way to get the uncut versions on Blu-ray for a while anyway.

      Thanks for the links RLench!

Don't think I've ever imported anything from Australia but I'm guessing things like postage times aren't really going to be much difference to the US and Japan for these things.

What do you mean by it isn't proper wide-screen? It's 1.85:1 as the original theatrical release was.

Spiderman 2 and 3 were 2.35:1 hence why they "fill less of the screen". They're all proper widescreen though afaik.

Picked up a PS3 yesterday so I can finally start picking up the Blu Ray releases I want to compliment my HD DVD collection. First was Starship Troopers yesterday as I absolutely love that film. Casino Royale and Transformers Animation next

I've had to explain to my parents many times why their widescreen films don't fill the whole screen - they keep forgetting too, damn them

My Silent Hill turned up from Amazon.de today!!!

It took a while to arrive but there was no way I was paying for the UK version when I could get the Concorde Entertainment edition was available without all the filtering and with VC-1 encoding.

Just put it to test the picture quality and it looks absolutely stunning.

Thanks for your help with choosing this version Lyris, I was ready to buy the Sony version a while back but I'm glad I waited.

Just have to wait for my Die Hard(s) to turn up from Australia now...

The Sony version isn't filtered either, so it still has all the detail - but as you it was in MPEG-2 so the German version has the edge.

Terrible film but you should really expect that due to the source material.

Every time there's a 2.35:1 movie on my parents' TV my mum comments that it's not worth buying a widescreen TV when it's not all used. I've given up trying to point out that a 4:3 TV would have even more blank space with a 2.35:1 source.

Drives me nuts. But I'm just thankful we've never had to deal with that American thing of getting widescreen and "fullscreen" versions of most DVDs.

I felt it to be a pretty standard horror myself. Perhaps more subtle than many of it's kind but not what I'd call a classic film in any way.

I do imagine that I'll watch it a few times though when I'm not after anuything to strenuous in the film department!

Fantastic Four 2 - holy crap @ the image quality!

I don't like Fox's expensive Bluray prices but, if it's to justify the amazing picture/sound quality in films like this, then that's good enough for me.

You're watching it on your PS3 aren't you?

How does it handle all the crap that's supposed to kill Blu-ray players? Any problems yet?

I mentioned it in the "Bluray/HD bitch-fest" thread and it's really been blown out of proportion

There IS a loading screen and it's no longer than 5 seconds before the film has loaded the menus. There's only a few BDs with loading screens and it's no longer than the loading time for POTC. All this crap about it taking minutes to load, crashing, stuttering on the menus etc was a load of rubbish. It might be true for other machines, but the PS3 plays it perfectly

Edit - I just timed it...18 seconds from the moment the PS3 fades to black, and loads the disc, to the point where the Fox logo and music begins 18 seconds is NOT the same as 'a few minutes'
