The UK version is cut yes, but for a different reason. The US version is hacked up for violence, whilst the UK version removed one line of dialogue during the torture scene where Le Chiffre says “such a waste” after complimenting Bond on his physique. He slumps the rope over Bond’s shoulder in this particular shot and in addition to questioning the further sexual connotation they felt the line added, the BBFC didn’t want such a close up shot of the end of the rope itself. I posted the lengthy breakdown of all the edits to the US version in the ‘bond for a new era’ thread.

The Korean BD is out on the 29th (it's up here at Yes Asia). Should be coming from the same HD master as the uncut R3 DVD yes [which I have and it’s untouched]. Second to that I'd reckon the Australian or Japanese Blu Ray releases would be safe bets too. With luck these will all be region A, B, C (it'd be a surprise if they are not since the European pressings are)… If not, then I guess it would only leave the Japanese disc as an option as that is at least guaranteed to play on Region A devices.

According to Paidgeek from Sony who posted about this on AVS, the US, UK and German versions are edited in their own individual ways. Versions released elsewhere will be uncut and he also said that the discs in uncut territories will conform to the same video bitrates of the North American disc should anyone be concerned about them not looking as good.

They found something sexual in the torture scene?

        .....Freeeeeeeeeaks

It drives me nuts when they give these little 'justifications' for hacking movies up, as if they have the right to play director.

What surprised me was you’d expect the MPAA to object to any perceived sexual content, and the BBFC to have problems with that level of violence in a 12a rated film yet this time precisely the reverse happened.

Obviously I’d wait until there’s 100% confirmation from owners that Korean, Japanese and Australian Blu Ray versions are indeed uncut. The Korean and Oz versions are out within the week, and the Japanese disc in April. Shouldn’t be long before we know for sure, and whether they’re marked for A, B, C. The good thing is Sony handles the discs in all territories so there isn’t going to be any difference in a/v or extras.

I've just received an email saying that due to a manufacturing error
my UK Casino Royale BD won't be dispatched until the end of April.

Hi Def aside is it worth keeping the order now that I've read about the Asda ?7 deal on the DVD? Or might it be worth waiting on the other BD versions Angry has mentioned?

Well since you’re fortunate enough to have the luxury of choice, would you REALLY wan't to suddenly go for a standard def version?

                Cheers, Angry! Nice link too.

I'll keep the order but hang around for the other versions too.

                  There's more here:

I was going to link to image 3 (which is of Bond and Vesper on the train) as it is by far the most startling, but for some reason today the guy's website is being a bit odd in loading some of the comparison tests.... at least for me it is acting odd. If you can get the others to load properly then image 1 also makes for a rather striking comparison. All those shots are direct screen grabs from the data files on the DVD and the Blu Ray disc.

You should post that on AVS Forum. They will be MESMERISED and astonished that the BD looks even better than the upscaled NTSC version.

I’m sure you also noticed by dropping the Blu Ray and Casino Royale directory bits off that original URL that there’s a whole site with some of Xylon’s caps comparing them with that clever flash based slider function:

A CRM solution for organizations of any size, haloDASH provides a complete view of customer interactions across your sales, marketing, project and customer service/support teams so they can collaborate and respond promptly and knowledgeably to customer inquiries and sales opportunities.

The difference in the King Kong ones is just obscene.

Nice little link Mr Angry Clown! Just recently watched Happy Feet on Blu-Ray and can honestly say it looked amazing. Ultra crisp picture with immense detail, also helps that the film is actually good too. If any of you guys haven't picked it up yet the I suggest you do, it is the right way to show off your HDTV's!

I've been looking for a kids title to pick up for my daughter (And me) to watch and I think Happy Feet will be it. Haven't seen it yet either.
