    Superman: Man of Steel

Still seeming to be passing around under its project name, turns out this is a bit of a long gamer as they're now aiming for a 2012 release though news is starting to emerge already as WB is pinning this as a mjor release like the Batman films and filming should begin in the next few months.

Made by the Batman Begins/Dark Knight crew the film will be a stand alone title that doesn't go out of it's way to ignore or tie itself to the other films or series. Casting for the new Superman is said to be quite far along and it will be a lead actor from a popular TV series. Speculation currently circles around

    From Mad Men:

    From Chuck:

I'm looking forward to any nw Superman film, my main concern is who's making it as Superman's stylings are completely away from their typical writing and image styling. It very much revolves around the things they're weakest at portraying and I'm hoping they have a really solid idea for it rather than doing it simply because Dark Knight made $$$.

Plus... it HAS to have the theme.

Please... No evil real estate plot this time.

A real sense of threat to Superman would be nice too.

It's a shame they don't seem to want to reuse Brandon. He had the look nailed and is probably going to be the closest you're going to get to a Christopher Reeve look/soundalike.

Of course the producers might be after something totally different this time around though, especially if this is a reboot. Zach levi could pull it off, especially the Clark bit, but Jon Hamm sounds like a mistake waiting to happen to me - he looks too old for the part, unless of course this is going to be Daddy supes fighting off Grandpa Lex.

Spacey for Lex! I still hate him for stabbing Supes with the Kryptonite in the last film, that was PURE EVIL!

I'm hoping they don't feel a need to knee-jerk distance itself from Returns and make everything dark etc. Returns is flawed but there's a lot to like about it, I'm still hoping for a Directors Cut one day. The amount of unused footage for that film is huge.

superman vs doomsday (death of superman) would be awesome...i know they did a animated thing already

Also would be cool if as a tribute to the original they filmed that and the sequel back to back...then could have first film death of superman and the second the return

They need to get Bruce Timm and his mates involved. Just watch a few episodes of Justice league unlimited. Superman is hard to nail without showing him facing severe challenges, the last movie just wasnt threatening enough IMO. Sooner or later they'll get Brainiac or Darksied (or both?!) involved. We need to see Supes leave Earth for a while during this movie. Not sure it needs to be "dark n gritty", in fact Supes is the source of light inspiration alongside Batmans pescimistic reality.

They should also avoid any references to Batman that could lead to a cross over film further on. Batman + Superman = The True Death of Both Franchises.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but have you read any of the superman/batman comics? If they could make a movie like that it would be fantastic.

I remember the fuss over one of them where I think Batman beat Superman (which is a dumbly forced idea). They never appealed to me, I've never felt the franchises weren't suited to it. The universes they inhabit are so strongly opposed and are at their best when not compromised.

I'm generally universally like that though. I always found Justice League a daft idea, a band of superheroes planning to save the world when Superman could save the day without them in seconds.

With some alterations to the ending for the sake of surprise Superman Doomsday could work, they should ditch his robot though

Lex is definately in it but I'm wondering if they'll have another Kryptonian around like Superman 2. Seems the best way.

Interested who they cast - it won't be that guy from MadMen as he smokes, lol too much for the Superman image maybe? I wouldn't be surprised if it's someone from Chuck, but not Chuck himself - Captain Awesome would be a good fit, and I think he was in the running for Superman Returns.

I think Jon Hamm would be the best fit physically of the people mentioned so far, he just has the classic Superman look from the comics. I also think he's a great actor and I for one would be happy if it did end up being him.

Hmm can't say I'm fussed about this. The biggest problem with returns was that superman was never in any real danger. All he does is lift progressively heavier stuff.

Bah, boring. He needs an intergalactic threat now.
