Some awesome stuff so far, but I think I'll go for some picks from more obscure films...

'Shadow of the Evanescence' from the hugely under-appreciated 'Red Cliff' (and as the youtube comments say, if you've not seen the four hour long version, you're missing out...)

Anything at all from 'Run Lola Run'. I like the whole soundtrack, so picking just one is hard. Here's 'Running One'

The opening credits from 'Paprika'. Still can't believe Satoshi Kon is gone.

'Sayuri's Melody', from 'The Place Promised in our Early Days'. The music really makes that film.

'Wonderful Days Theme II', from the Korean film 'Wonderful Days' (known over here as 'Sky Blue')

Probably do a post tomorrow with stuff that's a bit more mainstream...

I can't stop thinking about bloody soundtracks now...

Sister Rosetta Tharpe singing Up Above My Head which was commandeered for Jeunet's Amélie.

it really needs to be watched all the way through for the guitar solo, somebody's grandma playing the guitar like that almost sixty years ago really is something special.

A lovely scene from Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid with the perfect musical accompaniment.

Much like the previous one this is more than just the music, it's an almost perfect combination of The Magic Waltz and that scene in The Legend of 1900.

The film itself had a lot wrong with it but like the scene in Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid I just can't help but fall in love with it each and every time I see it.

I'd even say it's worth buying the film for that one scene, I'd say that because I've done it myself.

        EDIT:
Hang on, have to include this song from Bad Boy Bubby. Sweary bits so not suitable for all.

So, as promised, some stuff that's a bit more Hollywood.

'My Name is Lincoln', from 'The Island'. Pretty average film, but great score that shows there's more to Steve Jalblonsky than 'Gears of War'.

Craig Armstrong tackles the 'Balcony Scene' from Romeo and Juliet (the DiCaprio one). A piece so good, it was used for the Euro footy tournament coverage a few years back...

'Boss Battle' from Scott Pilgrim. This got played on 6Music the other night, which was a bit surprising...

'Battle Without Honor or Humanity'. Which has been in at least three films that I know of. This isn't the usual version of it mind...

Ah, what the hell, here's some Kenji Kawai with 'Log In' from the really obscure film 'Avalon' (that really should be on Blu-Ray now, and not the crappy US version with the added narrator that ruins all the fun of trying to actually follow the plot. Hmm, that sounds familiar)

Avalon was quite a strange film. That's what you get for mixing japan and poland I suppose. Kenji Kawai has done some great stuff, though most of the stuff I've heard is from different anime series. I do really like this one, short as it may be. Not sure if it stands out of context, but its a fantastic finish to the first film.

I think we need some John Barry in here today to mark his passing. I'll rustle something up later.

His score for Body Heat is superb.

Arguably one of the greatest films ever made with a theme that's become a classic over the years.

Miles Davis improvising the soundtrack for Louis Malle's Lift to the Scaffold as the film played on a screen in front of him. Damn sexy!!

Already chosen some incidental music from this film but I do think that Yann Tiersen did wonderful work on the score in Am?lie.

Maurice Jarre's music from Lawrence of Arabia, particularly the Overture.
