Hitfix writer and outright internet legend Drew McWeeny posted up review tweets for the script of Jose Padhila’s upcoming “Robocop” remake and the reaction isn’t good. Drew did reveal some spoilers – amongst the new facts learned: – The original Robocop design is shown to a “focus group of criminals” who laugh at it, prompting […]

Some script review hints have been revealed from Hitfix writer Drew McWeeny. He says Robocop's redesign was panned by test audiences and so has been redesigned again with another style that has passed the tests.

"The final version "looks like a cop on steroids painted metallic blue"."

"He also has "social mode” and “combat mode"."

"The ED-209s are introduced out in the field in Iran where they’re used to subdue suicide bombers."

"Dropped into an Al Qaeda training camp, this Robocop is "programmed to incapacitate in all scenarios" so no hardcore violence or blood."
    [spoiler]

'The writers end verdict is that it's not without merit but generally its going to disappoint/anger fans

That had better not be anything like the final image for him in that link. It looks pants.

This is just sounding more and more like a band wagon jump due to recent hits like Ironman and Transformers. I was against the idea of a reboot to begin with but this is blasphemy to my memories. He's a flipping badass Detroit police cyborg, with human emotional and identity issues. He's not a cyborg soldier enforcing american policy in the middle east FFS!

So They have turned Robocop into Gyver and he's now fighting terrorists?

I think the best we can hope for is that to tie in with the release of ths one, Fox give us a spanking remastered Blu-ray of the original, complete with all the DVD extras & so on.

Balls, after reading that Dark Horizons link, my expectations for this just fell through the floor. It may well be a good film, but considering how the storyline sounds from that article, there seems to be no real need to attach the Robocop name to it at all.

I'd rather stick my winky in a mains socket than watch this "reboot"!

Thank goodness - he's about as much a movie star as lassie....

Filming is not yet underway but MGM’s “RoboCop” remake hit another spot of bad PR this week with word that “Bus 174” and “Elite Squad” director Jose Padilha is having a tough time getting his vision across. What’s interesting is that the news is coming from Padilha himself or an anonymous source, rather its from […]

By the sounds, even the director isn't happy

This is going to be a winner, isn't it?

To be honest, the directors early vision sounded pointless anyway:
“Wars in the future are going to be fought with drones. We won’t send a plane with a pilot in, it will be drone. It’s getting that way now and ten years from now that’s how wars are going to be fought. But what if a drone goes wrong – who is to blame then? Do you blame the drone? And that problem asks if you can you consider a robot guilty of a crime. Or is it the corporation that made the robot that is guilty? How do you fight back against drones when you don’t have drones?”
