Saw it this morning in 2D, seeing it again tonight with the missus in 3D... it's a slow burner with everything building up to the climatic battle. Can't say much more than that for fear of spoilers

Thought it was awesome...saw it in Imax 3D...though the 3D was fairly poor (the trailers beforehand were really impressive too which made it seem worse)

The finale is really worth the wait!!

I totally concur. 3D was nothing to write home about (but the 3D trailer for new X-Men was great!), however, the movie itself is immense! Brilliant quasi-sequel to the 1954 original.

3D was mediocre, but the movie itself was excellent. It was better than I expected, after the less positive reviews started to get the upper hand. I loved how it was shot, the action through the view of someone a lot of times.

Blockbuster season started good. I thought Captain America 2 was immense and Godzilla is not a bad one either. Next up is X-Men.

I thought the film was superb and definitely one of the best Godzilla films ever made. The beginning third of the film was really well done and made you invested with the characters, the acting was great across the board and I loved the fact that Edwards took his time to build up the anticipation which made the third act even more satisfying. The MUTO creatures were really well done as well which was my biggest worry about the film, they certainly have a place in the Toho monsters gallery.

It seems that most of the negative criticisms with the film was due to the slow burn nature of the film, not only is it quite clear that these reviewers haven't even seen the original Godzilla films but it is also reflects how movie goers these days have no patience and want their blockbuster films to have non stop action from the start (Michael Bay style of filmmaking). If films like Jaws and Jurassic Park were made today they would no doubt get panned by these film critics complaining that it takes too long to see the monster.

Will be seeing this again over the weekend and will probably see it a few more times while it's in the cinema. A thoroughly enjoyable, old school monster movie, anyone with even a slight interest in Godzilla should love it

Its a sad state of affairs. I can't really see the fun in Transformers. I almost fell asleep during Dark of the Moon. Those movies show the CGI a lot, and after so many encounters I stopped caring about it. When building number x fell down I just didn't give a damn about the action, about the characters (no build up and bad acting) and the movie itself. Now, critics do pan these movies harder than they pan Pacific Rim and Godzilla, but the box office success is on their side still.

It's been a long time since I've seen any of the non-US Godzilla's, glad to read this is more true to them than the usual US monster fare.Even the missus is keen to see this, she's a massive fan of Jaws, Jurassic etc so the suspenseful build up is what's selling it to her.The big question though, is it anything like Pacific Rim in execution?

If it is, we'll skip it.

In my opinion, it's in a totally different league above Pacific Rim. It's reveals are gradual and it builds to a great climatic battle. More akin to Jaws and Jurassic Park in that there's no 'money shot' for about the first 3rd of the movie, and then when there is, it's only fleeting to start with
