Unlike some of you guys - I've never really cared too much about Godzilla. I love big monsters and monster movies - but for some reason Godzilla just never really tickled my fancy.

But now this new film is my most anticipated film - looks fantastic and has also got me quite interested in Godzilla and its history.

I would love to catchup on some of the bits and pieces i've missed - do you guys recommend the original movie or should i skip that and try something else? I did watch the 1998 film and thought that was absolutely horrible!

Watch the original but watch it being very aware of the time it was made in. Watch Destroy All Monsters to sum up the more cheesy (yet still very relevant) eras of Godzilla. Then I'd also recommend Giant Monsters All-Out Attack which is a fantastic more modern interpretation. Godzilla 2000 is pretty good too - after the awful US one, 2000 tries to rescue Godzilla and relaunch him and it worked. From there, I could recommend more - there are so many and they're so varied. Not all great but most have something to offer.

Then after you've watched a whole bunch, watch Final Wars and let it kick your ass. It's awesome.

Watch the original and Godzilla:destroy all monsters, Ghidora the 3 headed monster, Godzilla vs megalon, son of godzilla, Godzilla vs mecha Godzilla, the terror of mecha Godzilla.

I also like the 1985 reboot of Godzilla, Godzilla vs destroyah but the best was probably the last Godzilla: Final Wars

Giant Monsters All-Out Attack is my fave, but at the end of the day i enjoy them all for different reasons. The new(er) Gamera films are also worth a watch when you are done with those.

Watch GMK All Out attack for an individual Godzilla hit, it really was the best of the Millenium movies. All the Millenium films ( except Tokyo SOS which is a sequel to MechaGodzilla 2K2 ) are direct sequels to the 1954 movie so no prior knowledge is needed.

Don't believe the hype about Final Wars it's good but not great.

Godzilla vs Biollante is my personal fave from the heisei series but Godzilla vs Ghidhorah and Destroyah are not be missed.

As for the Showa stuff you need to watch the 54 original, it's still a very powerful movie and a very serious movie and is very different from anything else after it.

For the full Aliens treatment go for Invasion of the Astro Monster, Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla and Destroy All Monsters. For tag team match ups and full on genius levels of unintentional comedy go for Son of Godzilla, Godzilla Vs Gigan & Godzilla Vs Megalon.

There is really a Godzilla movie to suit every mood and most get better when rewatched. A lot of the Showa stuff i watched over and over when they were part of channel 4s creature feature and i still watch them now. I only watch them all subtitled now and they really are different movies with the subs, it lends them all a more serious nature compared to some of the old dubs. But some of the old dubs are worth watching especially of Gigan, Megalon and Son Of Godzilla which are hilariously badly dubbed but since i grew up with them i know them word for word lol.

Like others have said Check out the 90's Gamera Trilogy by Shusuke Kaneko ( he also directed GMK ), these films changed giant monster movies imo and pretty much shaped the way for the Millennium series of Godzilla, i personally think Revenge of Iris is probably the greatest monster movie ever made.

I'm looking forward to Walter White almost as much as Gojira!

Shades of Akira there, confirmed by director!!!!!

This is going to be the greatest movie of all time, hands down.

Looking good. No more trailers for me though, I am on Godzilla media blackout.
