Today i listened to Red House Painters' "Rollercoaster" album for the first time in ages.
It really struck me just how f-ing good shoegazing and 'sadcore' could be at times.
Katy song is a particular highlight:
'Glass on the pavement under my shoe, without you is all my life amounts to'
The 'Hey Jude' style ba ba ba's at the end just make it even sadder
BTW 'emo' and 'sad' should never be confused...
Apart from that i raised my spirits with Finlay Quaye's first album, magic

I'm sorry to mention this but it's not often I like an original sound track to a film but the Music and Lyrics OST is fecking awesome...
1. Pop! Goes My Heart - Hugh Grant... What a great 80's feel good track.
2. Buddha's Delight - Haley Bennett... A great track from a Christina Aguilera like slut.
3. Meaningless Kiss - Hugh Grant... What a fantastic George Micheal Careless Whisper like rip!
All the tracks are wonderful - Go and buy now!

I got Ringo Shiina's new solo album Japanese Manners (Heisei Fuzoku) recently and it's absolutely stunning stuff. It's a crazy mix of jazz, electronica, orchestral stuff and various other elements, but it all works and it's just fantastic.
If you want something different, or are a fan of Ringo or her group The Tokyo Incidents then you should own this immediately. Oh and just to prove what a mega talent Ringo is she even changes languages through the album, it goes from Japanese to English to French. She writes most of the music and lyrics too, and does all the vocals and plays guitar. What a girl.
