Hi Dave, thanks for the CD!

The Faces, that's who I'm listening to today. Stay With Me is a favourite of mine. "I know your name is Rita, cause you're perfume's smellin' sweeter..."
      Kept you waiting, huh?

I'm old fashioned. I had a little 1gb mp3 player - but I could get bugger all on it. So i've just forked out for a nice portable CD/MP3 player - it's rechargable, it can hold songs on it MP3 style, it can play MP3 CD's - it can do everything!

I also like to listen to my music on my actual CD player rather than the comp - no real reason why, just prefer it...

I only got an MP3 player last year, iRiver H10 20gb, and while I can't say I couldn't live without it, they are very useful, and I can now enjoy music more often. I would never take a Walkman and a stack of CDs/Minidiscs for a day out, but having just a PMP makes it much easier.

If you ever decide to get one, just make sure you rip to mp3 at at least 128kpbs (for wma as well if it comes to that), I normally go for 160kbps, and use decent headphones. It was always the prospect of having a shoddy listening expereience that put me off PMPs, but using the iRiver and Panny noise-cancelling headphones works a treat.

Back on-topic, just listening to "So This Is Goodbye" by Junior Boys, with Annie's "Anniema"l cued up. Absolute bliss

30 minutes in and just played Leftfield's Original and have now moved on to some pan-pipe goa 150BPM stuff.

After spotting one of Adys old posts in the OT forum, today I dug out the first two Urusei Yatsura albums and popped them in the car. For those not in the know, they are a mid to late 90s Scottish noise band who sit somewhere between Pavement and Sonic Youth. Their youthful exuberance and excellent, catchy songs still do it for me all these years on.

Scotland was home to loads of similarly terrific bands 10-15 years ago. Pilotcan, Arab Strap, Mogwai, AC Acoustics, Prolapse, Bis, vintage Delgados and Fanclub, Brendan O'Hare's stuff.

As a nipper who grew up listening to Prince, Average White Band, Steely Dan and The Eagles, my first tast of rock came in about 88, 89 with some Sonic Youth and Nirvana, so it was a blessing that when I hit 17/18 and was out gigging, all these tremendous acts who were influenced by my heroes were playing the Joiners regularly just down the road from me.

                Sorry to waffle on.

Got about 20 or so new cd's in the post today. Mogwai - Rock Action on at the moment. Madvillain to follow I think.

Looking forward to having a listen to this deluxe edition of DJ Shadow's - Entroducing. And my copy of Viroulegu forsetar arrived - i'll have to give that a listen tonight.

                        Good stuff!
