Listening to Bebel Gilberto's Tanto Tempo. Combined with the sunny weather atm it's making me feel really lazy. More so than usual anyway.

Old John Peel radioshows, the one I am currently listening to is from May 30th 1984 with a bit of Liverpool winning the European cup thrown in at the start, but the real star is the man himself, bloody brilliant. The music is not half bad either of course, Undertones - Teenage Kicks amongst others.

I bought The Corrs album (Best Of) for ?6 the other day in HMV and am loving it; it has been so long since I have heard them play and is refreshing to listen to something a little bit different.
Runaway and Summer Sunshine are lovely songs to listen to on this warm day.

Just got round to giving Zeitgeist a proper listen today.
This is what I'm thinking.....
Originally posted by Oh_Mutants View PostIt's a grower, some stand out tracks and some very average tracks in there. Thing is they're never going to hit the heights of Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie again. I'm just glad it's nowt like Corgan's abysmal solo offering...
Originally posted by spagmasterswift View PostThe first couple of songs didn't do it for me, the rhythm guitar is way to low in the mix imo, but by the time I got to United States I was loving it. The drumming is simply wonderful.
I think this is a great comeback to be honest, in the circumstances.
For these reasons:
* It would be ridiculous to expect them to get back into a groove they haven't had since about 1997. Yet some songs could be from that era imo (eg Tarantula).
* After 7 years of other project wankery, this LP could have been gash. It isn't. After Zwan and Corgan's solo album, it proves that he can still hit the spot. Not as often as during the Siamese/Mellon Collie era, but then he was never going to produce a regular output of that calibre again.
* There are only 2 members of the classic lineup present. Oddly enough, the same 2 as in Zwan. Maybe it goes to show that Corgan really gets his creativity in gear for the Pumpkins name. Good news for the future.
* Technically, it shows Corgan and Chamberlin still have their edge. They've both got their requisite solo bobbins out of their systems and have created a very Pumpkins-sound.
I really hope D'arcy/Melissa Auf Der Maur and Iha rejoin at one point in the future, because their input seemed to add an extra dimension to albums - in backing vocals, style, arrangement, instrumentation, or whatever - the lack of which is my only real gripe with this album so far. I always liked Iha's strummers with his weak and feeble voice
