...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead's new disc 'So Divided' has been getting a lot of play from me this week.

Today, it has also been joined with 'Look Mom No Hands' by Vast Aire and '...and the Glass Handed Kites' by Mew.

This is precisely why I haven't even made the effort to listen out for anything from this album. Aside from the fact that it's basically not even the same band anymore (even if Corgan wrote most of the songs, every original member played their part in making SP what it was), I just can't imagine the new material being all that good, to be honest (though I'd be surprised if it was any worse than Machina).

I'm imagining Zeitgeist to be a listenable, but uninspired slice of generic rock. Someone tell me I'm wrong.

Listening to Fugazi "Repeater" on the way into work, next up in my CD player is one of my all-time favourites "Fast Stories....From Kid Coma" by Truly. Again. 12 years on I keep going back to it time and time again; easily my most played out of all grunge-era Seattle records.

Whatdo you think of So Divided, Ady?

I thought it was a definite improvement over Worlds Apart, they're still a cracking band despite the directionlessness (!) of the last couple of records.

I like 'So Divided' a lot. You're right about 'Worlds Apart' as well. It was OK, but but by no means great.

'Source Tags and Codes' for me though is the best thing they've ever recorded and 'Madonna' was incredibly overrated at the time. It wasn't a bad album, but for a band hyped for their chaos as they were, it was surprisingly sleepy and downbeat.

The 'Secret of Elena's Tomb' EP isn't too shabby either.

Frank Black - Christmass. It's not a Christmas album, which is good because I HATE Little Drummer Boy. Even Bowie's version.

i could tell you you're wrong but then i'd be lying to you... it's alright, nothing really stands out as fantastic though.

Listening to the Garbage best of compilation. You know, its surprisingly good and they really did have something special, its just a shame they lost their direction a bit as time went on. But then I guess the same could be said for a lot of bands.
