A pure slice of pop-rock perfection, best single they've released since Tolerate!
Ahh dunno, Found that Soul & Ocean Spray were top draw for me, though more recently they have been atrocious, I really like this one, infact when I heard it this morning I thought it was an older one of theirs I wasn't familiar with.

Oh I'm not saying that previous efforts were bad, I'm a hardcore Manics nerd-fan and like all but a few songs.

I just this new single is an absolute breath of fresh air.

Picked up the new Avenged Sevenfold album today. First impressions are good but I think they are starting to drift a little towards the more mellow side of their sound.

            What a coincidence.

Frankie Teardrop is still one of the scariest songs ever!

Anyway, today I've been listening to:

            Nas : Illmatic
            Radiohead : In Rainbows B-Sides
Lisa Germano : Lullaby for Liquid Pig

                      Glass Graves : Architecture

A great little EP from a girl called Gaby Graves who obviously likes her old school goth and Cocteau Twins.

It can be downloaded for free at: http://glassgraves.com/

                      Definitely worth checking out.

Years ago, when 1989 turned into 1990, there was a long 80s musical retrospective on BBC2 to see in the New Year. At an impressionable age, it introduced me to a lot of acts, songs and performances that I'm still fond of today. From Orange Juice playing Rip It Up on the Old Grey Whistle Test to Tears for Fears playing Mad World, there was a lot of stuff I've hunted down over the years and played since.

I remember, though, seeing a video for Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill on the programme. Instead of the standard video of her flopping around with some bloke, it had her singing and pleading at a pulpit, with some blokes dressed in monk's garb behind her playing instruments. The stage was blue and black. I've never seen it again...

                          Until now

Loving the guy with the Carlos Valderrama haircut. Atmospheric video.

Yeah, my dad recorded it on VHS and it's been watched and watched for years, probably bits recorded over when I've accidentally hit RECORD when I've meant to hit rewind or whatever.

I think he's still got it, in incomplete form. I may have to lend it and convert it. There was loads of memorable snippets on it - Haysie Fantazee, Dead or Alive, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Cameo, etc.
