In that case, I also recommend Metropolis by Janelle Monae which is one of the freshest albums I've heard this year, referencing funk, Afrobeat, rock, classic soul, jazz and even classical music and putting it all together with inimitable style.
Yeah I'd say so, its a little on the cheesy side for my tastes but great beats and hooks, very inventive.

I'll check that, she also has an album called The Archandroid, you heard?

Meant to get back to you re: Oval as well, I thought it was the latest lp you meant, you heard ut yet?

I've been listening to T-Rex extremely loud for the past 4 days.
      Kept you waiting, huh?

Actually that is the album I meant!

Note to self: Don't post at 4am in the morning.

Today, I had the new Linkin Park album on repeat. I liked their first two but thought the last was godawful, directionless and bland.

This new one almost feels like it's what they were trying to do with the last one only this time they made it work. There's a couple of stinkers but around those is a pretty dark, thoughtful album. It's nothing like their first two still but they seem to be very deliberate about not doing more of that (referencing peoples desire for more of it in the album).

              It's good.

Oddly, though, the highlight for me is a short track that's just snippets of an MLK speech set to music. It's really eerie and I must have listened to it about 50 times today. This is it here but the quality isn't great. Sounds much better at good quality -

Cycling home from work today was hard work with the wind blowing in my face so I decided that the only thibg that could get me home was a mighty Iron Maiden medley, Where Eagles Dare, Prisoner, Evil That Men Do etc. The storming bass lines, stupid lyrics and power riffs made the journey fly by.

That must have been a heavenly cycle. Great selection.

I thought Metropolis was an EP, with Archandroid being the debut album. There are some corny lyrics on the album, but musically it's quite intriguing.

I think your right Paul, I got Metropolis on Ady's recommendation and I have been impressed, more imagination in one ep than a lot of bands have in a career. Definitley leaves an impression.

                              Listening to Placebo.

Something weird though. Just listened to the version of Without You I'm Nothing with David Bowie. Bowie is pronouncing the words the same as Brian Molko does. Very strange!
