She said: "it really is me."

There is ambiguity there as to her role, but I think the writers wouldn't have placed that line in there if they didn't want to immediately clarify that she still exists.

      Good theory chain, but -

if the cylons ran the humans away from Earth in the first place, why would the cylons not know where Earth is? I can understand the humans losing the place, because that's what we do, but robots?

The Cylons chasing Galactica now aren't the original Earth Cylons - the Five are the original Cylon models (maybe the Four and one Uber Cylon). They've evolved to a point where they have a deeper understanding of Humanity and want to protect it, hence on Kobol they influenced Man to go and form the Twelve Colonies. Maybe Man was on Kobol so long they forgot they came from Earth, and maybe the Thirteenth Tribe who set out for Earth didn't really exist, it's just history getting confused.

So the New Cylons have NO idea where Earth is. The Original Cylons do, but seem to have forgotten - maybe they purposely decided to erase that part of their memory, as they see Earth as their biggest failing. Much like how the New Cylons initially wanted to colonise Caprica but then went to New Caprica.

I suspect the Original Cylons had nothing to do with the New Cylons, but all life evolves in a similar way. History repeating itself. "It's happened before and it will happen again."

The New Cylons are evolving in a similar way to the Original Cylons (hope this makes sense!). They are understanding the important of life and birth, they've come to know that death & birth is painful (they used to not care about dying and being reborn, now they complain how uncomfortable it is).

So the Original Cylons are helping safeguard the fleet - all Four are in very high positions, but none are "in charge". You have the President's Aide, the XO, both of who are one step away from the top but seem happy to serve and help rather than lead. The Chief's position is different, but I'm sure that can be seen in the same way - he's in charge of the Vipers that the pilots need.

As for Anders, he was instrumental in protecting life on Caprica and later on New Caprica. On Caprica he assumed the role of leader as he had no option.

On New Caprica, three of them functioned as the Resistance. Without them, humanity may have died out.

Hope that clears it up. My theory still holds

I'm liking these theories. Very interesting.

I think Earth could well be a place where humans and the Five live in harmony with each other. A place where the Human-Cylon wars never took place.

Didn't D'anna say something about the Five not wanting to wage war on the humans as the rest of the Cylons have, and instead want to promote co-habitation and friendship?

If so they could be from Earth, sent to lead Galactica there for whatever reason. Fate, or destiny or something.

If you were a figment of someone's imagination, isn't that exactly what you'd tell them?

But who did D'anna apolgise to when she saw the five? I think the last cylon is doc cottle.

Not read any of this thread, have decided to start watching this after everyone keeps telling me how good it is. Is it necessary/best to start from 0101 or could it be easily picked up from the start of a later season ? cheers.

You could start on season 1, but it picks up straight after the miniseries, so i'd advise you to watch the miniseries first because you can identify with the charachters before being thrown itno the thick of it in 33. enjoy

Also for those dread months without battlestar http://www.game-warden.com/bsg/
A free standalone mod of freespace based on battlestar its awesome aswell.

Yep, start right at the start. I only gave it a go very recently and I don't think you'll be disappointed although it was about halfway through season 1 before I really went from 'this is midly enjoyable' to 'this is stunning'.

Although I'm almost halfway through season 3 and a lot of stuff just isn't making sense to me -

Why they don't just go back to Caprica? Either the humans or the Cylons. They both seem to be looking for a home and yet now Caprica is empty. The cities look intact, they seem to have anti-radiation meds. No problem. And just what the hell are the Cylons doing? Nothing they ever do seems to make a lick of sense. What is it they want?

I'm hoping that will all become clear.

                        I thought

it was more or less shown that the Cylons had occupied Caprica. Just because the action has moved on from there doesn't mean there isn't an occupation.

To echo others, start with the mini-series. It sets the scene and tone perfectly, and will give you an idea whether you'll be interested in the full series or not.

                            Well,

the Al from Quantum Leap said at the end of S2 that the Cylons has decided that the occupation was a mistake (after Boomer and Caprica 6 got some influence) and that now they all left Caprica. The fact that some of the occupying Cylons (like Boomer and 6 again) were then seen in S3 looking for a new home would back that up. If they were still on Caprica, they'd have a home.

                              But

Caprica and the other colonies were nuker several times not just the cities so i would have thought that the radiation would be there for hunderds of years, not just the radiation in the air the water supply would have been severly irriadated. Also i don't think they would have enough anti radiation meds for 39,000 odd people for a long period of time as they they only have the ones they had in storage and no facilites to make new drugs.

That's true. Although the fleet could orbit Caprica while they set up those needed facilities on the planet. Would be no worse than the situation they're now in. Doesn't explain why the Cylons aren't there either. Why look for Earth when they had a perfectly good planet right there? Maybe they just plain didn't like the planet. I guess I probably shouldn't look into it too deeply or I'd start to wonder how the Cylons are anatomically indistiguishable from humans and yet can chuck an electric cable up their arm to network with a ship's computer... although, having said that, it's such a well-written show I would hope it would stand up to such scrutiny.
