    Robocop
It's the films 35th anniversary so the 4K remaster of the Directors Cut has seen a brief release at the cinema. I honestly couldn't tell you the difference in cuts as nothing stood out as being different from memory but it was another opportunity to see a film in the big screen environment. With the exception of two dweebs behind me who couldn't bring themselves to shut up during the film it was good to see again. I haven't seen it in quite a while and a scary amount of the film is relevant to the world today.

Amen to that. Bone fide classic. You have 10 seconds to comply

Halloween Kills - [MILD SPOILERS] I don't go in to these new Halloween films expecting Carpenter levels of greatness. I'm okay with an average slasher set in the world of Halloween. But this one, even going in with very low expectations, was utterly dreadful. 'Evil Dies Tonight' added pure cheese and cringiness into the mix, Michael Myers wasn't ever scary or subtle ... and the scrapes he escapes, given there's a lynch mob after him, is ridiculous. What a pile of crap.

            Top Gun : Maverick

It’s everything I expected. It’s basically the 80s movie again for the first 2/3rds. Like the actual scenes are repeated but with character flips. By the end it gets suitably ridiculous. A highly enjoyable romp!

For the most part the aircraft were accurately represented including a couple of times where I expected them to take artistic license and not bother with something they went the extra mile and did it properly which added to the enjoyment.

            Go see it!

              Top Gun: Maverick
As with what Brad said, it's very true to the original, borders at times on remake territory but more so feels like a book end to the original. It's very hard to see how it could disappoint fans, for me it's comfortably a better version of the original.

Midsommar - This is a film I was looking forward to at the cinema but circumstances put the kybosh on it ... and for some reason it's taken me a few years to finally get around to seeing it. It was well worth the wait. I thought it was brilliant. Daytime dread among the smiles and happiness of those who know more, a-la The Wicker Man is done so well ... and so much going on as it slowly unfolds. I enjoyed every second. Absolutely class. I need to see Hereditary now.

I did find myself looking towards the living room door during some bits ... I would have definitely had a 'what's this????' had it opened

Midsommar is a really cool film in so many ways. I think I might actually prefer Hereditary though. Midsommar could just have done with a bit more editing down for me, it's slightly bloated.

I spoke to a work colleague who watched it after I was talking about it and said it was sooo weird and wouldn't trust my suggestion again, but I pointed out I never "recommended" it to her, just that it was really memorable, to which I said "mission accomplished!"

I thought Hereditary was brilliant and I have to applaud the makers of the trailer, who lead me in a totally different direction to the actual film so I was hella shocked about 30 minutes in...

I couldn’t decide between starting Obi-Wan or starting Stranger Things so decided to watch Metal Lords on Netflix. I loved it. It’s a small simple film about a few kids trying to form a metal band and, plot-wise, honestly doesn’t have much else going on but it has so much heart and the characters have some lovely layers of depth to them. Something felt quite 80s to me, not in how it looked or anything or how it was made but maybe just in the type of story it was. I could imagine John Hughes having made a similar film although with a very 80s style. I liked it. A funny, warm film with some great metal tracks.

Jaws 3. Great stuff as long as you aren't expecting anything serious.
Then moved on to Jaws 4 and it's suddenly back to trying to be serious. Never seen it before and enjoying the first half an hour.
