True Tears ep 7 - That image is so appropriate. Nice turn of events in this one.
I didn't think we'd get a confession and especially not for Noe (*waits for someone to say it was obvious and all the signs were pointing to it). That scene was cute as Tobal said. In some ways it reminded me of some of the sugary sweet stuff from Nana-chan in Bokura ga Ita. The way she blushed as she ordered him to say it clearlyThe whole confession scene was great. Very memorable.
The Aiko bit was a nice twist but to be honest I'm not sure I like what she's doing and the timing of it, so a third place finish for her would be fine by me. At least Nobuse seemed to take things reasonably well and hasn't blamed Shin for it. Hiromi didn't have much in this episode except for the squareoff with Noe.

They Are my noble masters ep 6 -
Probably one of the better episodes since it started I think. I was beginning to think the series was losing its touch a bit with me. But this one redeemed it. I particularly enjoyed the Death Note, Shuffle (this one in particular took me right back to perhaps one of the most powerful and shocknig arcs in the show) and D.Gray-man parodies, the whole dream sequence was pretty good too I thought. Plus the scene where the two really forgettable characters are consoling each other... sort of... I laughed pretty hard at that. Like "She's envying me but I don't feel any better" *cue more crying*
.
There's a sub of a special lesson for nodame anime which looks to be an extra from the DVDs. It's a 14 minute extra episode I guess, judging from my quick skip through of it. I've not heard many good words about the subbers but I'm not sure if anyone else will be doing it so I've got it just in case. I might check it out later tonight though.

Shana S2 ep18 - pretty much whats been said but without so much Yoshida hate.
Minamike Okawari ep7 - Decent episode, best stuff coming yet again from Mako-chan (his utter despair and stupid girls giggling really made those jokes) and off course Hosaka entrance(to bad he didn't give that cake to Maki). Shame the animation didn't turn up, had plenty of "Quality" moments.
Aria O ep6 - brilliant stuff and most likely with it a million Alicia*Alice doujins. Nice to see that pairing together for the first time,
but it was alittle strange Alice was quite serious about getting Akira in trouble to make Alicia blow her top but she didn't follow thurn a Budda Alicia turns up to save the day and give her a normal side and us a chance to see how her mind works... that little bit at that end onthe bridge was really class with an embrassed Alicia

So I just finished watching Gurren-Lagann. A brilliant series overall, even though the very last arc (after they
stop the moon (*this*, however, may very well be the best arc in the show, if only for the "you've become a very boring girl while I was away, haven't you?" line))
) feels noticeably weaker than the rest. There's some obvious cel reuse (which had mostly been avoided so far), unnecessary melodrama ("hey, let's kill half the secondary characters in a single episode!"), a very artificial-feeling Yoko/Kittan romance (never even hinted at in the 20 previous episodes), and the last costume redesigns... Oh Ghost, someone please kill me.
It's like they held a contest to see who could come up with the most gay-looking threads, and boy, were the entrants skilled. By which I mean "gay" not as in "generically crap" like american kids do, but truly as in "fruitier than Tingle x Cho Aniki slash fiction". Wearing what I can only describe as a posture collar, a corset and sunglasses that were already illegal in 1986, Simon looks straight out of a BDSM yaoi artwork collection. And what did poor Yoko do to deserve this? Just when I was done mourning the loss of the skull hairpin, they take away her rifle and give her that dreadful 1970s sci-fi latex bimbo outfit... It's just no good!
Still, even the weakest part of a great show is miles ahead of the crap that gets aired weekly -- it does have its moments. The last fight looks proper awesome, the
matrioshka doll effect with robots jumping out of bigger robots
is a cool idea (what can I say? As a computer science geek, I'm a sucker for recursion ^.^U ) and Lord Genome looks badaaaaaaasss.
Also, something about the very first sequence of the first episode (before the opening credits) feels bizarre to me, but I'm too tired to talk about it. I probably will, later on. Good night to those still reading me.

Question for tobal or anyone else that's seen it; Is it recommended to watch the other aria series first or can I go into the new one without knowing anything? It's supposedly a prequel right?
Oh and what's the w00f subber like for true tears? I've been holding out for the later release by moetaku since they have a pretty good quality.
Bit behind on my anime at the moment. Spent all my spare time since friday reading the 800 odd chapters of Hajime no Ippo. -_-
Edit: Shigofumi ep 6(the proper one). Yeesh. I can certainly see why they didn't want to show that it. Rather a brutal episode but certainly as thought-provoking as some of the earlier ones.Last edited by Mr.Jeff; 19-02-2008, 23:45.

I'd go for the order they aired in personally. Start with Aria the Animation, then Aria the Natural, then watch the Aria the OVA ~Arietta~ and finally the new series Aria the Origination.
I, myself, stopped midway through the second season because I didn't think we'd see much more any time soon so I wanted to prolong what little was left by as much as possible. How wrong I was... that was shortly followed by the OVA and then this new series which may well be the last since the manga is finishing upI almost wish it could carry on forever.
It's certainly not for everyone mind you. I know a lot of people can't stand it for its glacial place and lack of anything going on. But it also has a pretty hardcore following I think and it's quite popular in Japan (I know very few series' like it but especially ones that have had as many seasons as it has been blessed with). It's the show that got me into the whole slice of life thing all those years ago (okay it was only about 3 years ago so not that long). One of my most favourite series' for sure, it certainly has a special place in my collection anyway.
As for true tears subbers, w00f are okay, decent enough for the watch but not something I'd keep. I usually watch their's and replace with moetaku's later on.
edit: and Aria was also the reason why I was so excited about Sketchbook because IIRC much the same staff were involved in that show. Still need to catch up on it now that I mention it...Last edited by Zapp$ter; 20-02-2008, 00:14.

Get in to Aria from the 1st season, mainly to get the setting and have all the characters personalities explained so the character building episodes that come have better impact. Plus there's a more fantasy involved with season 1 and 2 as it centres mainly around Akari getting know the qurky parts of neo Venezia(like the Cats and legends of real Venezia and Neo Venezia). Season 3 certainly more relationship and character building stuff as the Kids grown up to become Primas.

Originally posted by Mr.Jeff View PostMmm, that's why I was asking about it. I'd been meaning to check it out for a while but never got round to it (as usual). I only got interested when I saw the screen at the end of Sketchbook which shows Sora and the pink haired girl from Aria together on a bridge. I figured that since they were by the same or mostly the same poeple, I might check out Aria since I'd Sketchbook and it's slow pace.

Zetsubo Sensei subs at last \o/: good ep, the amount of mech parody's and references they crammed into that first section was crazy, also towards the end there was a couple of subtle pokes at lucky star and its ilk
Shigofumi 7 -
more background on fumika, they hinted that her dad was abit of the deep end, but jesus he's a proper loon, and at the end when he shoots her, then left us hanging, looks like next eps more background on fumika(s?) and what appears to be her warped childhood,
, really am loving it gets better and better
also just watched the first ep (of 3) of the Read or Die OVA, good stuff so far, will report back once ive finished it

Read or Die is one of the best OVAs ever. You're in for a real treat, mate.
Have a look at the TV series after that -- it's set a couple years later, features a mix of old and new characters (some of them in *really* unexpected roles) and is brilliant, if only because it features a main antagonist who's almost on par with Light Yagami, brains-wise.
Also, both the series' and OVA's opening themes are proof that funk music rules.

just finished the OVA, and your right it was brilliant, i had heard good things about it and its certainly lived up to them, and ill agree again the op and soundtrack in general was great
ive already got TV sat on my hdd waiting to go, so will more than likely get stuck into that tomorrow, heres hoping its more of the same
also why im here one of the cool guys over at MyAnimeList has just released a cool little program that logs and updates your lists for you, in a similar way that lastfm and its scrobler does. just install it and set it to open on windows start and aslong as your using MPC and its on your watching list it will log and update it for you. Of course its not perfect and can get thrown by some filenames, but its v1.00 so its bound to get better, but i had a quick play and it recognised all the stuff i threw at it. Recommend installing it if you actively keep a list over on MAL like i do, wont half take all the hassle out of having to update your list manually after every ep
