Interesting. I'll have to bump some of the older gundam shows to the top of my watch list by the sounds of that. If that is true about some of the older ones I suppose I can see why one might be disillusioned with the newer stuff.

I recommend: Gundam 0079 (original series), Gundam 08th MS Team, Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, V Gundam. There are other good series (X and Z Gundam, for example), but those are the ones I prefer.Comment

I agree with these but i would make a few little changes. I would watch the movie trilogy of 0079 as its an awful lot of episodes otherwise and the films are quite long as it is. If you really enjoy it then you can seek out more but bare in mind how old it is. 0080 is excellent, and i think you can get it all on one disc now so i would go for that for sure. 0083 is also very good and can be got in oav series or movie form and as said 08th MS team is also great.Originally posted by briareos_kerensky View Post
For me the best actual series is Gundam Z (or Zeta Gundam) which although long is really great and really was one of those shows where you have to watch the next episode. ZZ is a bit odd, but ok, i've not made it all the way through yet. To cap all of that off Chars Counterattack is a great movie. I would watch these in chronilogical order if you can although its not essential so that would be:

Completely unrelated to anime at the moment but I'd like to recommend a manga for people to read. It's called Mirai Nikki and there's only about 10 chapters or so released at the moment but it's really quite good if ever so slightly creepy at times. Synopsis;
"High school 2nd year, Amano Yukiteru, is a boy who has problem making friends. He thinks of himself as a bystander and will always write down everything he sees in a cell phone diary.
Tormented by solitude, Yukiteru began to imagine things like a friend called Deus X Machina who is apparently the Lord of Time & Space. Seeing Yukiteru's miserable state, Deus gives him a new ability. His diary will now record events that will happen in the near future. Yukiteru is then forced to participate in a game which the winner will become Deus's successor."Comment

Have the FMA movie to watch in the morning. Decided to keep the series after nearly selling them. Definitely my favourite, although i loved gunslinger girl and chobits.

Yeah, Zeta really is a fantastic show from the UC era. Definitely give it a chance to see where the inspiration for Destiny came from...
0083 has to be my favourite of the UC stuff though because it does all the normal Gundam stuff in just under 15 episodes! The animation and art style are lovely too as is the soundtrack.Comment

Watching through Kanon again helped me come up with the idea.

Excellent, just what I wanted to hear. I think I'll wait for the OVAs to be out and completely subbed before doing anything with it though. That should give me time to watch through some other stuff.
Minami-ke ep 6 - finally caught up to this. Best episode of the series so far for me. I actually laughed out loud during it, usually I'm just grinning through it(much like Lucky Star really but they're still both very enjoyable to watch) but this time I was pushed over the edge. I'm sure those who saw the episode will know which bits I'm talking about.Comment

Minami-ke 7: The show that keeps on giving. I love the continuing saga of the tv drama that's in it. So ridiculously over the top and awesome. Also, Banchou Haruka!
