I hope I get a confirmation text as I can't miss this (prob only) chance to see my fave band of all time.

This whole tickets thing on ebay is very annoying. The way I see it a ticket is for a one off experience so should be treated differently to people selling CD's, DVD's etc, all items that will come up for sale again in the future.

Something does need to be done - maybe they should have personalised the tickets (similar to what the Glastonbury people have had to do). People could have sent their names and addresses as part of the text message?
Had old Bob sold tickets for the event rather than insisting on on setting up a texting competition instead then they could have put controls in place. What did people expect.

Had those people who entered the text competition to sell the tickets on not entered in the first place, then Live 8 would have made less money - and you can guarantee that the vast majority of people who did enter did so in hope of making a quick buck.

        why?
fair play to them i say

no-one thought of anything when Ratboy Geldoff was charging ?1.50 per text for the tickets. some people would have texted 20 - 30 times to get thier hands on them.

so whats the difference to selling these to any other tickets?

think about it - would you not?

They've buckled. Ebay to take down all live8 ticket sales!

I have no sympathy for Sir Bob Geldof and/or the Live8 organisers. Either Sir Bob is extremely stupid or naive. You'd think he didn't know about eBay before all of this ****e! Giving these tickets away for free was absolutely asking for this to happen. The tickets should have been officially put on sale at a set price via a ticket hotline and/or box office, with all the proceeds going to charity.

And they still allow the resale of designer live 8 wristbands - justice has been done :P

And they've banned people who were trying to stop it. See Here

Although they have broken the rules, this is rather dreconian and unnecessary. In my mind it was a protest. E-bay are just causing themsleves more bad publicity.

Why don't they allow the sale of the tickets on Ebay, but half the money raised goes back into the event/charity. That way everyone is happy. The guy who paid ?1.50 for the ticket gets a couple of hundred quid, maybe even a couple of thousand and the event gets the same. You also get a happy person who bought the tickets going rather than someone who doesn't really want to go, and may end up wasting the two tickets.

Or, on the day they should have a cut off time of say 12pm for all ticket holders to be inside the event, then any unallocated spaces can be raffled to people outside - there are bound to be a lot of people hanging around.

It just takes a little bit of common sense...

"On Wednesday, Liberal Democrat culture spokesman Don Foster called on eBay to introduce a UK charity auction site."

Indeed... I actually had the same idea myself if I'd gotten tickets; sell them on eBay, donate most of the money to charity. They win, I win...

I bid on item and got out bid.
Consequentially I found the same item with a ?Buy Now? price elsewhere on the site, and bought it.

However, the seller of the original item allowed the highest bidder for that item to retract there bid, making me the new highest bidder. I have already bought the item elsewhere, after I was outbid I thought that was it for that auction. Am I bound by Ebay to still buy it? I can?t find the rules about this sort of thing on the ebay site.

The original seller allowed the previous highest bidder to pull out because she ?changed her mind?.

I think yeah, you are still obliged to buy it. Explain what happened and offer to pay the seller's fees or something.

If the item ends without you as the winner, then you should be offered a "second chance" by the seller. As per ebay rules, you are given a choice as to whether you wish to buy the item or not. Explain the situation to the seller and if he's worth anything, he SHOULD accept it, afterall if he left off the actual winner for a pathetic reason, why shouldn't he with you?
