But the problem with NPB'ers is the lack of consequences they face, they know they can always change their mind later on if they dont want the item.
This is where being able to leave Negative feedback for buyers is still needed.

The thing is with an auction is that it isn't like going into a shop and taking something off the shelf and trying to leave with it without paying. You're effectively reserving an item with a promise to pay as per the contract. If the seller doesn't specify a time limit then the buyer, in theory, can chose to make that payment when he wants.

But I totally agree it is damned bad form not to pay ASAP particularly when it's clear the buyer was there at the end of the auction. That's certainly what I do and my own buyer feedback comments show that sellers clearly appreciate it. I think my best time from winning to confirming Paypal payment is under three minutes.

BTW I hate automatic sniping - I lost out on a game I'd been waiting to buy for two weeks only last night by what I suspect was some such bidding device.

Just had a new one for me - won an item over the weekend, paid straight away, seller sent item which I received today. No problems whatsoever, left feedback for him and left it there.

...He's now sent me a mutual agreement request to cancel the transaction. The reasoning he gives in a seperate e-mail is that it results in him getting back the 'horrible ebay ripoff / final value fee of 10%' (if I accept the mutual agreement request, of course).

I'm not getting involved in a scheme to avoid fee payment thanks very much, so can I safely ignore this? Or will I have to actively decline it to prevent it being auto accepted? (not sure if it works like that...)

Ask him to split the 10% with you?

You will have to decline it

if you let it run he will get the fee back and it might look bad on you (if you've agreed not to buy the item in the first place)

              Nah, sod that.

Anyway, I have just outright declined via the resolution centre. I'm not getting involved in what is effectively fraud, and he shouldn't be pushing his buyers for it.

                rumbletum does have a point

just send him a message asking for the 10% to hit your eBay paypal account and you would be happy to do what he wants

the reply to that would be just amazing

I doubt I would have got a reply, lol... he seemed concerned only with what he stood to gain from it.

I've asked a friend who lives in Japan to pick up an Xbox 360 for me and I'll give him the money for it.

If I do that via Paypal can I use my AmEx and will that be classed as a cash advance on the card?

Also, what other charges might I be in line for?

been mincing around and i've seen a notice where its changing for sellers again around the last week in September

not only do we have to pay postage and packing, but they are removing insurance from the sales as well

P&P insurance will no longer be included in the purchase process as either an option or requirement for buyers. This change will remove the perception that buyers need to buy insurance as a protection on eBay. In fact, business sellers are responsible for their items until they arrive safely in the buyer's hands.

Sellers can always choose to purchase insurance for their deliveries, but they shouldn’t ask buyers to insure purchases separately. In some categories like Antiques, Collectibles, and Jewellery, delivery insurance for sellers is the norm. Where appropriate, sellers can include the cost of insurance in their item or postage price.

i can see some rare games being listed in the rare antique section

as a standard i make the buyers purchase insurance, since i'm not really happy with certificate of posting

                      what parcel guv'nor

Remember when eBay was about personal sellers?

                          Those were the days.

Personal sellers have long since been forgotten by eBay

recently sold some stuff and eBay and its went alright, but i reckon i'm dealing with a chancer

He bought a cheap item at £5 and after postage and fees i was left with probably £3

like everything i inform people through paypal and eBay that their item has been posted

He paid the Tuesday, it was posted on the Wednesday and on the Thursday he asked me if i had posted it yet to which i replied yes and stated that i'd already told him

This morning he tells me its now been 5 working days since he paid for the item (Its only been 3) and if he doesn't have it by Tuesday could we work something out

just a plain old chancer - just told him no we would have to wait 15 working days and i can bet right now that it will disappear and never arrive and now i expect a negative any minute

Since negative feedback for buyers was done away with I've noticed an increase in the "my son/daughter/hamster bid on it while I was out of the room, honest" stories.
I've got just one more batch of stuff to shift then I ought to be done with ebay for a long time. It's a shame, as it used to be quite decent a few years ago.
