One thing about Vettel though is that Schu was the golden boy up until Adelaide '94. I doubt that he is like that but you never know. The top drivers possess something of a killer instinct, otherwise they would never find themselves in such a position.

Bit worrying news about Brit GP

The future of Formula One's British Grand Prix was thrown into doubt when legal proceedings were issued by the owners of Donington Park, the race's venue from 2010, against the circuit's operators.

Wheatcroft & Son Ltd, which issued the proceedings at Derby County Court, is seeking £2.47 million in rent arrears and forfeiture of the circuit lease.

Donington Ventures were given a 150-year lease in January 2007 and in July 2008 secured a 10-year contract to host the British Grand Prix, currently run at Silverstone, from next year.

"Despite receiving numerous reassurances over a number of months they have consistently failed to meet their financial obligations under the terms of the lease," Kevin Wheatcroft, whose father Tom bought the circuit in the 1970s, said via the owners' lawyers.

"We have held off taking legal action for as long as possible but have been left with no choice but to commence proceedings to recover the outstanding rent and forfeit the lease."

Donington Ventures was not immediately available to comment.

In January Donington Park secured planning permission for a $100 million punds revamp as it prepared to replace Silverstone as host.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has said previously that if the circuit, near Derby in the Midlands, failed to get itself ready to host the race then it would not revert to Silverstone and Britain would be left without a grand prix.

Asked about the legal development and whether it left the race's future in the balance, Ecclestone told Reuters at the Bahrain Grand Prix: "I've no idea. But I don't worry about anything, to be honest.

"We can't have one (a race) in the streets or anything, can we?" he added when asked whether there was any possible alternative to Donington.

Ecclestone said he would have no interest in becoming the promoter himself.

"We've got a promoter, we've got good people there already," he said. "Maybe Tom's wrong and the other people are right, maybe they don't owe that money. I don't know."

The 78-year-old said it was sad that Britain was struggling to find an adequate venue while Bahrain and Abu Dhabi were offering state-of-the-art circuits.

"I've been saying it for a long time, we don't make the effort," said the Brit.

Also scarey rumours coming out about Mclaren

McLaren could be set for the loss of more than just its dignity and reputation when the FIA meets to discuss the team’s fate at the end of the month – with suggestions Mercedes-Benz and a key sponsor may walk away too in the wake of the Melbourne ‘lies scandal’.

The Woking-based concern has been summoned to appear before the World Motorsport Council in Paris on 29 April, charged with having ‘deliberately misled’ Albert Park stewards following last month’s Australian Grand Prix, ostensibly in a bid to inherit the final podium position by way of a penalty for Toyota star Jarno Trulli.

The options open to the sport’s governing body – should it deem it necessary to punish McLaren further than the disqualification from the 2009 curtain-raiser – include, at their most severe, exclusion from the entire season. That is a situation that would not sit easily with the multiple world championship-winning outfit’s sponsors.

A source with one of the squad’s major backers told British newspaper the Daily Telegraph: “I can say that if a disproportionately large penalty were given to McLaren on April 29, then the sponsor that I am associated with might leave.”

Mercedes, for its part, has hinted that it too may not be hanging around, with every manufacturer presently involved in the sport questioning the continued viability in the light of the global economic crisis and dramatic slump in car sales, as well as the fact that environmentally-friendly technology is appearing increasingly attractive, to the detriment of the high-octane world of F1.

There is speculation that the three-pointed star may be considering selling its 40 per cent stake in the McLaren Group in favour of remaining on the grid merely as an engine-supplier. Mercedes currently provides powerplants to McLaren, Force India and championship pace-setters Brawn GP.

“Daimler has the goal to be prominent with ‘green technology’,” mused Helmut Lense – a member of the supervisory board of the Stuttgart marque’s parent company – in an interview with the Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper. “Does Formula 1 fit? Would it be the right signal to step out of F1 now and instead concentrate on pollution-free propulsion technologies?”

If there's no F1 here, then it's SURELY time for the Birmingham Superprix to make a triumphant return!!! (although, yeah, I'd rather see a proper F1 as you can see unofficial superprix's most weekend night times)

There has been a British GP every year since 1950, the start of the Formula One world championship. The loss of such would be an abomination, in my opinion, and would damage the motorsport industry to some degree. The UK is the historical home of F1, and even Bernie should recognise and respect that.

It would be like the promoters of Wimbledon declaring that they are going to move the tournament overseas due to more money being on offer. Some things just are what they are, and races like the British, French, Italian and Monaco should be protected. I recall that the FIA has a say in it too.

Regarding Merc, well, it wouldn't surprise me. Sell off that 40% and just become an engine supplier. Haug has already stated that they are making money from Brawn and FI, and they have achieved success in the sport, unlike Toyota, so why not?

McLaren's are looking pretty fast in practice this morning, wouldn't surprise me in the least if Mercedes just become an engine supplier. I would if I was in charge.

Liking the ghosting coverage showing the different lines. Be great if they used that in qualifying, as the commentators just remarked.

Makes me wonder how much time Rosberg is going to give Williams - He's a good driver, and he isn;t really getting the chance to shine in race conditions.

I suspect a move to Mclaren at some point, maybe as early as next year.

After struggling last year he has done well to turn things around performance wise. As of late though with Williams, they tend to start the season off well, then, mainly due to lack of funds can't keep up with the developments other teams make throughout the season.

Toyota's are a little light but not stupidly, Ferrari's are just dog slow, and the BMW's are fuelled very heavy. The heat is going to kill the tyres tomorrow.

Moto GP race tomorrow also, no qualifying due to rain so Rossi & Stoner are top two thanks to Practice times on Friday, fingers crossed for a good start from Rossi so we have a good race.
