Really can't see Ferrari pulling out, F1 has been such a huge part of their business for so long. I understand what they're saying, I don't think anyone really want's to see a two-tier championship, this isn't GT racing.

As James allen points out, is it worth losing Ferrari, Renault, the rest and the associated history for the sake of a few new teams with zero F1 history? The answer must be no so the FIA will have to give up this two tier fight or face the destruction of the sport.Comment

All 10 team owners met with F1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone and FIA president Max Mosley in London on Tuesday and, though it was agreed a two-tier championship was not acceptable, Mosley insisted there would be "no compromise" on the cap.
Having failed to emerge with a concrete solution then, team bosses are now set to meet in Monaco ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix where they will again hold discussions with Mosley.
Well if Mosley doesnt compromise and get rid of two tiers for next year I think it will be the end of the current F1 we see and we will end up with two rivals and I can see more jumping on the bandwaggon for it being stopped or leave.
I personally think its ridiculous that Mosley has brought it in when he knows that teams are already working on the next years car (thats why Brauns so good this year as they gave up instantly last year) and will already be way over the £40mill budget. Everyones happy about caps and everyones happy about letting smaller teams in but its all the incentives they get with the 40million cap that at moment the big teams cant achieve for next year as its too late like Unlimited testing more aids etc... Im sure everyone would jump up and say yea baby for 2011 but its too late in day already to change the agreement and have it in for 2010 when they all already agreed a cost cutting gradual measure.Last edited by Guest; 20-05-2009, 13:15.Comment

The sport is going to split in two. History means nothing to these (FIA) people. A travesty and how ever you look at it, it's not worth losing nearly 60 years of history for a bunch of new teams. It now remains to be seen if Ferrari really will pull the plug. If they do and the others follow, then god knows what will become of F1.Last edited by Richard.John; 20-05-2009, 14:24.Comment

I think Ferrari will use this as an excuse to leave F1 and make themselves out to be some kind of victim. How does FIAT justify the outlay on F1 in these difficult financial times? $200 million to advertise a company that sells a few thousand cars a year.Comment

Its not about Ferrari and fair enough if you dont like the team your going to blame them but the fact is Ferrari where the 3rd team to come to the table over this long after Red Bull and Toyota and Renault after it and its not about cost reduction its about the perks.
You can use the same argument for costs to other teams anyway Toyota is one of the biggest and Mclaren spends more than the cap for next year on a tower in paddock. Same for Ferrari their budget is also huge. The stupid thing is they have all agreed to the cost cutting up to 2012 to massivly reduce. The issue is its FIA changing the rules at the very last moment for the teams by this two tier.
Stupidly all the big teams with the big budgets what invest the biggest money into FIA F1 are going to be the loosers as they dont have time to change for next year so will end up with huge dev costs and will no doubt be at back of grid because they dont have the tech allowances of a brand new team working on a car now under 40million. Thats going to have a knock on for 2011 as their going to reap back even less in earnings for wins and so on. A team like Williams who are on the brink it could actually destroy them. Its crazy to think that a team for example what in Toyotas case spends up to half a billion a year could just get the rules changed on em and kill the majority of the work force their and then in costs and bin a car for next as it costs probably triple the forty million in the space of a few months and build a new one with this smaller staff. It takes time and it should be gradual.
ITs just topsy turvey and its basically saying that anyone thats coming into the sport with a small team here you go you get everything but all those that keep the sport going your screwed for next year.
This really could kill FIA F1

Ferrari is a special case, whether you like them or not. Renault sell boring, mundane cars, Toyota too. Ferrari sell dreams, and their sole purpose in F1 is different to the others. For them, it's about pushing the brand forward with technology as the centre piece, and it no surprise that the road cars are arguably the best of their breed.
