Hey, well done mate; was it in an Olympic size swimming pool? That would 20 lengths if you did - that is pretty good considering you haven't exercised much in the past few months!

    Keep it up.
Thanks ET. Was just the gym pool, 15m in length. I don't push off at the ends.

Sounds like things are going better exercise wise for you too. Oddly enough I've been thinking about joining my local running club too. Let me know how you get on.

I love my 'technical' top, went out in a downpour with my gf a while ago (her cycling behind me) and by the time I got 'home' I was practically dry whereas she was soaked. Wonderful materials.

      Cheers for short recommendations!

Got a few tops like that myself and a similar pair of leggings. Great and handy for all sorts of sports.

Did weights at lunchtime for the first time in a couple of months. Christ I hurt now!

Yeah I went back to the gym last week after an absence, gosh it hurt for the first few days! It's fine after you go regularly but you don't half ache at first.

I'm still doing the martial arts three times a week, and have now started back in the pool again. Only once a week at present, but it felt so good to be back in the water Our local pool is 25m, and I always aim for 60 lengths (1.5KM) and see how fast I can do it. I'm a crawl wimp though, it kills me, but breast stroke I can seemingly go forever with no drop of pace. Guess I ought to be working on the weaker stroke really

Yeah, work on the crawl. I thought the same - if you start off with 2 lengths crawl per 10 lengths (the rest breast stroke) you can slowly work it up. After 5-10 sessions you should be able to do the whole lot crawl.

My martial arts experience wasn't so productive.

lol what happened for you with martial arts?

I'm going to go for that 2 in 10 thing tonight, see how it goes.

If that is the case, I best invest in these technical tops a few of you are going on about. Where can I find these and - excuse my poor knowledge - what do they look like as they seem to be very similar to every other athletic tees.

                    Thanks.

Unlucky Nijo - I hope you find something a little bit less taxing to do!

Still doing well. Been going down the gym (weights and swimming mostly), still not had any booze and have not been snacking.

Well worth it, JJB does a few general ones that are good, proper running stores will have loads but more expensive. Nike and Adidas IMHO do excellent ones, although just getting into Puma stuff looks better as bit retro and top notch oh and cheap to, they are tops that wick moisture away will be called climacool or drifit or something like that normally about ?20 but last a year wearing them every day and trashing them top value. Try this link http://www.startfitness.co.uk/acatal...aClothing.html as per the runnersworld website there are other online stores on there but have used this one before and good value the puma top is decent at ?12 and for those asking about technical lightweight shorts there are some on here too for ?12. Hope this helps.

Did 40 minutes intense weights today. Felt good

Also... lost 3lbs in the last week. Its all good!

Thanks for your help Spagoli, I appreciate it. I shall pop to JJB one evening this week and see what they have available in terms of those technical tops.

I manage to do four laps of the 400M track last night three times (3 X 1600M) and then did a 2 mile jog with a couple of blokes around the area before cooling down around the track a few more times. It was drizzling all night long too.

I have to say, while I have already done my fair share of running in the last few years, it really helps if you join a running club even if it is just once a week as you can learn a lot from the professional runners.

And a brief well done to Ish for losing a bit of weight; keep it up mate.

I think I will do a little run later on today but the weather isn't too pleasant as usual.

Due to a wanky knee and operation, my fitness has plummented. I hate the gym, butdecided that doing something was better than nothing, so for the last 3 weeks it's been this..

Only fruit and salads during the day, and only black coffee or tea, not snacky ****e.

100+ pressups everynight, interspersed with 100 crunches and 500 punches and at least 1 x 45minutes walking the dog across fields/hills etc. Nothing massively cardio, but I've just been given a mountain bike so hopefully I can put that to some use.

An update since I haven't posted in here for a while:

I'm now doing roughly 50:50 running and walking when I go on the treadmill. I used to struggle with 2 minutes of running if it was followed with a 5 minute period of walking (then 2 minutes running after that). Now I'm doing both evenly, which is a massive improvement. I can now run for about 10 minutes before getting tired, and I only stop then because I like to spend about 50 minutes on the treadmill. No point tiring myself out in 15 minutes if I can't do anything after that

I've started heavy weightlifting now while I'm losing lots of weight and improving my cardio. My trainer at the gym has set up a program with dumbbell exercises that's about 40 minutes long. I'll try and do that 3 times a week, with other weight exercises inbetween.

I've now lost 20lbs since I started and I'm down to a 34" waist (I was 38" at one point! ) The difference is unbelievable. I was fat but I was never huge. But even people who see me every day (and would only see gradual change) have said I look completely different now

Still really enjoying the gym though (otherwise I'd quit), eating healthy food, and I feel better than ever
