Just to add. I have to say the thing I like about the running is how much better it makes me feel after I've done it. I was getting really wound up about something over lunch / this afternoon which is why I went for the run. And now I'm back I feel pretty sanguine about the whole thing. Its great

        Little dude called Zach.

Back at the gym yesterday, tried benching. 100kg 1 and a half times, was ****ing bad man. Felt heavier than 110kg 10 days previously. Goes to show what a week of junk food, sporadic sleep, no training, no protein and no vitamins does to you

Indeed my friend, well you have new priorities now to keep you occupied, try benching prams while you're out and about. Congrats again that is good news!

Dude don't worry about it for the first few weeks. Zach is more important.
Do what you can at work but don't overdo it, what with lack of decent unbroken sleep. Sleep more during the day at weekends.

I'm tempted to crash out daytimes on a bench at work 8)

I'm back to training 5 days a week for the time, dieting down a little - figure I may as well, if I'm not making strength / size gains I may as well try and shift some fat for a week or two. My back is still ****ed though, been a long time and it's not getting any better Actually that's not true, it's not as bad as it was, but the last 3 or 4 weeks it's not improved any.

Thanks for the support guys. Having a kid is weird, but things will balance out in the end.

My daughter was born in the middle of July, right in the middle of some of my biggest weeks during my marathon build-up. I missed a couple of days in the first week, and then got straight back into it.

I needed to, it made up for the broken sleep, and helped to stop me from feeling rubbish.

Emily still wakes up at least once in the night but I'm used to it now and wake up feeling ok and ready to train (I swim every morning during the week now).

I'd got back to jogging every day, only a mile or two, but enough to make me feel better. Today though I nearly collapsed while hoovering the gym, so decided to give jogging a miss

Thought I'd have a proper crack at some rowing today. 10,000m, not too shabby but it was hard work. Finish at 39 minutes, decent enough I suppose but I could hardly walk for a good ten minutes after getting off! One of the blokes sprinting come straight off the machine, the nutter.

Went to the gym tonight. Did 20 mins on the treadmill, 10 on the crosser and 10 on the bike. Felt like death. I need more sleep. But the cold has gone, so at least I could breathe

I'm trialling a piece of software to keep track of my training programme. It seems to be pretty good so far. It Windows-based with access to an online read-only view, so you can show off to your pals. I'd prefer if it was completely web-based but beggars can't be choosers.

My log is visible here (except I haven't subscribed yet, so it's empty) but you get the idea:

It's ?25 for the software and about ?27 a year to subscribe, which is a wee bit steep but doable.

Anyway, training is going pretty good at the moment. I'm on about 3-4 hours of swimming a week (just practicing and drilling - I'm working on my breathing at the moment - I'll be swimming laps soon though), about 4-5 hours of cycling (2 nights enduring the turbo and a long ride on Saturday), about 3 hours of running and weights 2wice a week.

It seems a pretty big workload but I'm tolerating it at the moment. Saturday's long ride (3 hours/50 miles today) is the hardest day (I'm a bit tired now) mostly 'cos the weather is a bit harsh - cold and wet and windy up here today.

I haven't missed a session in the last 3 weeks since I started on my new programme, which is pretty pleasing. I continue with this pattern until after the new year, when I ramp up the running a bit before my spring marathon.
