Just got back from a 8 mile run - I started late due to my evening out last night. It is nice and sunny in Woodbridge today but the 'effing wind got on my nerves near the fields.

The amount of people who almost deliberately stand in your path when they can clearly see you deserve to trip over and land on their face - 'excuse me' - yes you, you silly prick.

Blimey, even showers aren't safe! The bathroom injuries are mounting up!

I was on a training run last year on the canal and some local scrotes had been putting piles of grass in the middle of the tow path and setting it on fire, rather than leap over it (I was at the 17miles into a 22 mile run) I ran round it. I forgot that the side of the topw path was uneven and went over on my ankle. Some bloke walking his dog watched me fall, it was very spectacular, I went from a full on run to a stoop to slowly falling closer and closer to the ground before ending up doing a sommersault and landing on my back. I leapt up in a typically embarrased "I'm OK" kind of way and immediately felt like my ankle was broken and fell over again. This fella saunters over and says "blimey this running lark looks dangerous" while his dog licked my face. To be fair he then offered me a lift home as my ankle balloned to 30 times its usual size which was a bit pointless as were on a tow path and nearest road was by my house so I had a very painful 5 mile hobble home covered in grit dust grazes and blood while trying to grin and bear it saying a ceery morning to all the fishermen on the way.

I put myself out of action for a whole weekend with a bathroom injury recently. Its ludicrous isn't it?

Just got back from a decent cardio session in the gym. Cross-trained, cycled and rowed. About 45 minutes in total.

well 5X1200m in 4.30 was no problems the first two were hard but it then felt a lot easier for the last 2. There were a couple of sprinters there doing 200m and 100m, couldn't believe how quick they were motoring round, plus they were all about 3 times the size of me.

Anyway planning a nice recover 35mins tonite then it's the Roys Tilling Relays tomorrow, having looked at the contest I reckon our team stands a decent chance of winning our category, its 4 x 2 mile legs so I reckon all we need to do is all average under 5min 45s and its in the bag! This could be the first thing I've won since a local nobbly knees contest in 1984.

The rugby players always amaze me - these huge blokes hurtling along. Incredible.

Went to the gym again yesterday afternoon. Had a really intense weights session - my arms are still limp.

I've really got back into the gym habit and am starting to feel much better for it.

I started going to the gym in January time as I'd put on a bit of weight, around a stone and it was beginning to show because I couldn't get into my jeans anymore! A whole year of sitting on my arse quite litterally doing nothing stuck in uni halls doing nothing but sleeping and eating crappy cheap ready meals for my first year of uni really did me in. Put on around a stone in that time, not a lot of weight but I was really unfit. My first time cycling from my new house to uni in my 2nd year I got about 3/4 of the way and then felt really really ill.

Now though, I've lost almost all of the weight I put on and I'm beginning to put on weight again but in muscle this time. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week depending on when I can be bothered, I cycle to work occasionally and attend Karate classes twice a week so I'm much fitter than I was and all of my clothes fit again, quite a few bigger pairs of trousers are falling down and I need a belt now, lol.

Bugger... my shot at winning last night was well and trully scuppered. Had a great team that put in a performance that would have easily won the race time wise for the last 3 years as it was two other teams turned up and beat us. It was a 2.1mile course. 1st leg fella put in a blinding 10min 30 2nd leg was 12min 40 my leg was 12min 15 and final leg was 12min 30 sadly it wasn't enough though still not bad times and on any other day would have been ours. The winners had an international cross country runner in their side plus a 2hr 45min marathon runner and a sub 3hr marathon runner, really we stood no chance but was fun to run my guts out trying!

Oh well back to training tonight doing got 6 X 1600m at 6min reps with 1min 30 recovery, cant wait.
Am maybe thinking I dont push myself hard enough throughout these races and should give it more throttle to start with and hope to hold on, I certainly didnt disgrace myself last night but I saw people a lot more knackered than I was on the line, at least I think they looked worse than I did, maybe I didnt look cut the fleet footed easy breathing figure I seem to remeber flowing down the last 100m, probably more like a spittle spewing drunkard legs and arms flailing wildly

Bad look man - cracking effort though!

Interesting to hear how everyone else is getting on as the year progresses.

I'm starting to up the mileage again after getting my insoles modified by the podiatrist. Did a 9 mile off-road run last night and really enjoyed it. It was tougher than the road, but having real peace and quiet and interesting scenery is a great distraction. If someone is looking to do something different from their usual run courses, try getting off-road.

Rest day today and then tomorrow is a walk with my son on my back as the start of my more specific MDS training.

Have a good weekend's training all!
