Volleyball/Soccer is a sport with a multiple point scoring system and vertical areas of scoring. They're the best in the sport, they can send hand signals to their friends if they want. But, I'll check just to make sure this isn't a side effect of winning the championship title.

      Malat & Lagooners

And, in this sport teams can lose one point. This happens if the firsat serve of a player rotating into the service position is bad: Any subsequent serves are not penalized and side-out is called. Two point aces and three points goals are also indicated in team scores.

      First Set:

      Malat:?1-2-3-5-6-8-9-10-12-13-15-16

      Lagooners?1-2-4-5-6-5-6-7-9-11-12-14-15-16-15

      Second Set:

      Lagooners:?1-3-4-5-4-6-7-10-12-14-15

      Malat: 1-0-1-0-1-2-1

      Third Set:

      Malat:?3-5-4-5-6-7-8-10-12-13-14-16

      Lagooners: 1-2-3-5-7-8-9-8-9-11-12-13

The final score was Lagooners 43 and Malat 33. However, it is interesting to note, that if this was a volleyball game, you will notice that team Malat won two out of the three sets with a lower total score. But this isn?t a rallypoint set system game. The Lagooners won the game because they scored more points after three sets of play.8)

      Malat...................Lagooners
      16.......................15
      01.......................15
      16.......................13
      (33).....................(43)

Actually this game is incomplete. A complete game is four sets and a team has to win the fourth set and outscore its opponents in order to win the game. If this isn?t accomplished, the team with the most points scored after four sets of play and didn?t win the fourth set, only has to win one overtime set, to win the game. The team that won the fourth set but had the least points scored has to win two sets of overtime play. Overtime sets are ten points or a goal, whichever comes first. If there are no goals scored in overtime sets, only a team with service can win a set or game. 8)

The question was, what happens when volleyball and soccer are combined into one sport ?8)

        The answer is....

A sport called Rocball is created. And, its a sport developed on the island of Saipan by the islanders of Micronesia and born out of an idea for Physical Education.

        Its a whole new game
        ******************

        Next question!

What does a lazy dog do for fun and the FIVB have in common?
scroll down if you don't know the answerft:

One of them chases a parked car,
and the other parked the car for the chase.

Well, it started in 1979 as an idea to improve the competitive features of the old side-out scoring method of volleyball. It developed into a physical education project in 1981 and became a tournament/league and seasonal sport in 1983. And, since then has become the indigenous sport of this community.8)

And, we are the pioneers of offensive and defensive scoring in this kind of team net sport. The FIVB jumped on the band wagon in 1995 with their anemic rules of play called rallypoint, which is an adaptation of table tennis rules, displaced to a volleyball court. And, the FIVB didn't make the change to try to improve the competitve features of the sport, but diluted it in hopes of making it television friendly so as to attract sponsors.

So, I guess I have been at it for a few years.

Lagooners, Ochobu tied with a set to go

Ochobu fought back from a slow start, but was not able to stream far ahead as the Lagooners came back strong in the third set to tie their World Organized Rocball High School League match, 37-37, yesterday with one set remaining to be played at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

Despite a couple of first serve mishaps and a goal by Ochobu's Ichnis Kapwich, the Lagooners were able to grab the lead and took the first set, 15-7, courtesy of three aces and two kees.

The Lagooners then hit a cold spell in the second set and struggled to put points on the board, giving Ochobu a golden opportunity to come back.

With the door swung wide open, Ochobu took control of the second set, knocking down two xunks and two aces to cruise to a convincing 16-5 victory.

With the win, Ochobu managed to turn the tables and swing favor to their corner, leading 23-20 after two sets.

The Lagooners came back to life and retaliated in the third set with a stronger effort. Ochobu was also in good form and the game was tightly fought, ending with the Lagooners creeping by with a 17-14 victory.

The Lagooners had a goal and an ace in the set, and had to work for a point at a time to pull off the win and knot the score at 37-37 with one set left in regulation.

For their part, Ochobu managed to get three aces, a xunk, and a kee in the set.

According to WOR founder James Feger, the fourth set will be played today, with the winner going on to take the match. No o-kon-Rocball term for overtime-will be played as neither team was leading heading into the final set of regulation. O-kon is only played when the team trailing after three sets wins the fourth set.

Kapwich currently leads the stats sheet as the veteran had connected for four aces, two kees, and a goal for 15 points.

Feger may well be the 'Rainman' of Rocball but since he dropped this stuff on us I've been hearing these strange phrases round my way:

"Man I totally Juiced You Out!"

"How you like that? Three aces, a xunk, and a kee on your arse!!"

"Bitch I thought we were playing o-kon-Rocball o_O"

                    Keep Rocball alive!!!!

Seriously though Feger, how do you pronounce "Xunk"?

Sports: the word xunk is pronunced "zunk" 8)

Lagooners fight back to beat Ochobu in Rocball Thriller
The Lagooners were in good shape at the start of the fourth set, then lost their lead, but were able to recover just in time to beat Ochobu, 53-51, in the conclusion of their 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League match yesterday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

As reported earlier, both teams headed into the fourth set knotted up at 37 apiece after playing three sets Tuesday. The match had to be continued yesterday as time expired before the start of the fourth set.

After taking the first and third sets, the Lagooners made a strong opening charge in the fourth and quickly jumped ahead for an early advantage. The team blasted three kees and a xunk and seemed to have control with a 9-4 lead.

Things took a turn, though, as Ochobu?s fire rekindled. With their backs against the wall, Ochobu scored an ace, a goal, and a kee that spearheaded a 10-1 run to put pressure on the Lagooners and lead, 14-10.

Ochobu, however, was not able to close out the match as the Lagooners put up a desperate charge that carried them to within a point, 13-14. A two-point smack enabled Lagooners to regain the lead, 15-14, and they finally managed to stick a fork on the win by scoring another point.

Earlier in the match, the Lagooners were able to take the first set, 15-7, despite Ochobu?s goal by Ichnis Kapwich. The Lagoonres struggled early and experienced several mishaps on first serve before settling down and connecting for three aces and two kees.

Ochobu came back strong in the second set and took a 23-20 lead in the overall tally with a 16-5 win, but the Lagooners came back to life and retaliated in the third set, 17-14, with a stronger effort to force a tie.

The Lagooners had a goal and an ace in the set, and had to work for a point at a time to pull off the win and knot the score at 37-37 with one set left in regulation.

Tito Francisco led the Lagooners with 15 points after blasting away four aces, two kees, and a goal, while Kapwich led Ochobu and was the game?s heavy hitter with four aces, a xunk, two kees, and a goal to finish with 17 points.

Rocball action continues today with B-n-S and Just For Fun making their debut.

                                Reporter / Saipan Tribune

                                Tuesday, October 18, 2005

B-n-S put on a show in their 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League debut yesterday, and holds a commanding lead against Just For Fun after two sets of play at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

B-n-S, which league organizer James Feger said stands for Brothers and Sisters, got off to a sizzling start and strolled to an easy 16-6 first set win.

The only highlight for Just For Fun came from the hands of Anirut Tebuteb, who hustled and attempted to return the ball while facing his team's goal. He connected and by the time he turned around to see if B-n-S was going to attack, his shot found the back of the net of the opposition's goal for a 3-pointer.

Just For Fun had more trouble in the second set, and most was of their own doing as the team failed to convert on three first serves, resulting in the subtraction of points from their tally.

The team finished with two points in the set, while Myron Laniyo and his B-n-S cruised ahead and ballooned their lead with another 16-point performance.

The match resumes today with the third and fourth sets to be played. Although trailing by 24 points, 8-32, Just For Fun can still stir up a comeback as Rocball rules indicate that the team leading must win the fourth set to prevent overtime.

The team trailing when entering overtime-o-kon in Rocball terms-must win two sets in the extra session while the team leading must win just one set.

Laniyo currently leads the match with a xunk and three kees for eight points.
