As Ginger Tosser said, it has different uses depending on the camera. He has a 5D (soo jealous ) so it's basically a wide zoom but for me it's more of an every day walkabout due to the 1.6 crop factor. I thought that I wouldn't use it that much as it doesn't have a great reach, but I just zoom with my feet if I can't go any further. If you only intend to get one lens then I suppose it may be a bit on the short side but I have the 50 and 85mm primes to cover that so for me it's not an issue. As it's only f/4, I would recommend getting something like the cheapo 50mm f/1.8 to use indoors or in low light.

Also, I like the fact that the front element does not protrude when zooming so it's very compact, yet looks like the mutt's nuts due to that lovely red ring on the front. It's true, I am an L whore.

      Aye, know all about that!

Think though i've done enough damage in the last year or so.

Anyway, went to Stratford today armed with bread for this

I've got a thing for night shots, nice set Alastair.

Nightshots make the ordinary look interesting.

A few people have thought they recognised this road now.

Its the B2123 travelling from Woodingdean to Falmer on the outskirts of Brighton.

GT, I love night shots too, the effect of the false light on things just makes everything so interesting to look at when it would otherwise be plain and ordinary.

Nice shot. I like lots of your 'mono' images on your flickr account.

Thanks Gareth! I seem to be in a monochrome phase right now.

                          Paradigm,

Nice shot. What kind of camera did you use?

A very cheap Panasonic compact in B&W mode. The noise from a colour taken in low light is unbelievable.
