The band INME are playing at my local venue tonight so I'm going to try to take some shots tonight. Will attempt to avoid getting my camera smashed up in the mosh pit!

Well INME were very disappointing and consequently I didn't really get any decent shots. But the evening wasn't a complete disaster:

Some beautiful colours there Dan. What lens worked best?

Thanks Al - I actually just used the 50mm as I didn't have the other with me, so those are all with my new lens.

It was such a beautiful evening I just couldn't resist pulling over on my way out to take a few shots in a couple of spots. I particularly like the 'danger' shot with me taking the photo while standing in the middle of the road!

Is everyone on Holiday or something at the moment? The forum and this thread seem quieter than usual lately.

I need some opinions, I have to do a project for my photography course and it has to be a certain type of photography. I think I'm going to go for long exposure but need a theme/brief for it. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of motion/movement but that just seems a little too easy/obvious for long exposure.

Yeah what's that all about Al - this place is usually brimming with activity. I suppose it's school holidays at the mo and so peeps have other commitments or have simply just gone on holiday and not told us, the bastards!

As for your long exposure theme, other than movement/motion I can't think of another for that. But I is a photograhy n00b so it's best not to ask me anything technical - I firmly believe that all of my photography success has been down to pure luck and nothing else. So as long as my luck holds out...I'm cool!

Could one of you kind photography chaps recommend a digital camera? The one I have is absolute pants (flash washes everything out and, if you don't have a flash the picture is blurry unless you're in blinding daylight) and I need a decent one.

I'm not a photography nut so I don't need loads of bells and whistles but I do want it to take good photos. I'm noticing such a difference when pictures are taken with a good camera. Because I'm not an expert, I'd prefer if what I bought was the final article rather than needing new bits or whatever but I'm open to options.

In price, well I'm hoping to get something for under a grand (euros). Is that possible?

both Nikon and Canon got a £50-£60 cashback thing going on their very nice DSLR, combine this with the summer sales in places like jessops and you get some nice gear for about the £400 up mark

Merf - I'm not sure a DSLR fits this criteria

I'd take a look at the Fuji F31fd, Canon A550, Casio Exilim EX-Z75 or Nikon Coolpix L12 - all of those will fit your requirements.

You seriously don't need to spend a thousand Euros to get good pictures - it's usually not the camera, it's the person taking the photos.

I just got myself a powershot s3 (now replaced by s5) and I think that is a really good starter. Was tempted by a dslr but the all in one convenience (and, I won't lie - the 12x zoom) swayed me. I'd like to get into it more but I wanted an all-rounder that was cheap. I'll add to this thread later I hope.

The one I'm using now (Panny FZ7) comes with 12x zoom too and it really is a great feature to have.
