HaHaUK - have you stacked up all the macro filters? I'm sure you should be able to get in slightly closer. I'll give mine another go (If I can find them!).

I'm using vista now and have downloaded Picasa (haven't installed photoshop again yet), however any new photo I take comes out in a horrible washed-out, off-centre effect that looks like it was taken in the 1920's. I know the photos themselves are OK because I can use the built-in Photo Viewer in Vista and they are fine (but cannot edit or save as jpeg, as they are RAW). Any ideas? It's like Picasa has forgotten how to view RAW files properly!

      Thanks for adding me people.

Ok, so I've done some tagging and organising of my photos into sets and collections but I can't find out where I organise the "layout" of my photostream page!??!

Edit: Found it! There's an option on the account page to change layout Also changed my link to this....

The organising tool is pretty niffty and quick as well

      Thanks again peeps!

I dont actually have the filters, but found a 70-300mm Sigma lens on eBay for around 60 quid which isnt too bad considering.

Can you send me a link to the Sigma lens? I'm looking at getting a new lens for my D40. I wont bid on that auction

bear in mind with the D40 if you want auto focusing you need to buy it with the motor in the lens. which will push the price up a bit.

Generally I would say it bumps the price up quite a lot

The one I linked to is an AF lens!

Yeh most new lens are autofocusing when the motor is in the camera body, but with the d40 and the d40x you need to have the motor in the lens.

So for Nikkon lenses you are looking for them to have AF-S and for the sigma lenses you need it to have HSM for autofocusing

This might help - it's a fairly comprehensive list of all lenses that will autofocus on the D40/40x/60

There is a pretty good choice now, and some good lenses that don't cost too much.

Also, if you look here, this guy recommends the kit lens and the 55-200mm VR as a pretty good combo...

Quote from that link - "But lest you bemoan the fact that you'll never have enough disposable income to afford all that, remember this: there will be a few photographers out there with that D60 and two kit lenses that are shooting up a storm. People keep asking me what the best lenses are. You now have two answers. One is the list of lenses you see above, the other is what you've got used right. Start by learning to do the latter, then add better options as you can afford to."

From what I have read, if you're after a Sigma 70-300mm for D40, then this is the one to go for - bit more expensive, but meant to be good.

                        Bit cheaper here..

                          Cheers for the lens tips.

Haven't had the internet at home in a while so no uploads from me until today. I haven't much time with the camera of late but here is two snaps from a weekend with my wifes family.

Looks like you're having great weather Marty, loving the first two shots there.

Got a film back today, scanning is good but the dev seems a bit ropey, lots of marks and tiny hairs on them, oh well, maybe I'll have to go back to paying 15 quid a go.

Got some F1 shots on my Flickr from yesterday if anyone's interested, or check the motorsport thread.

EDIT - also spotted this at the F1 strapped to a tiddly little 400D. Shot was taken just after he'd taken the 1.4x TC off too, seemed to be getting head shots of the drivers and not much else, jealous much? YES!

Aye - yeah, really sunny and warm here currently

Some pics from today - some from an aquarium - surprisingly pushing the ISO to 1600 and above and hand holding at 1/40th on some shots, they were coming out relatively noise free and not to blurry.

Trouble is, all the coastlines are very similar
