I brought the ring up close touching my nose...

EDIT: The more I do it I seem to get my right eye or my nose. So I guess my left eye is knackered then.

Magnakai, I really like your dog photo. It's also nice to hear when a photographer leaves the post editing to a bare minimum or not at all. It's very rare these days it seems, but I like it when the picture we see is exactly how it came out when you were there taking the shot.

Can anyone recommend some good quality but cheap photo editing software?

The Gimp, it's very cheap (free)

Failing that, Photoshop elements can be bought quite cheap (on offer usually less that £50). Also might be worth looking at Paint shop Pro (PSP), not used it since my move to Apple though so no idea what the current version does.

If you're on the Mac, Acorn gets a bit of press. Never used it though.

I also use GIMP. As i'm tight and refuse to pay money for Photoshop.

I did a shoot a couple of weeks ago for a website, and it's now live with my pics. They've credited me for every shot, which is very good IMO. Not necessarily the same picks I would've made from the photos I gave them, but I'm quite pleased nonetheless:

There's also a gallery sub-site which has my pics on it too: http://www.northandsouthideas.com/gallery/

Well done Mag - you should be very proud!

I'm just waiting to hear if I have managed to blag a press pass for the Barbican this Saturday night to shoot an artist known as Rodriguez for the Big Chill website. Fingers crossed eh!

I've only done one day properly so far, but I think I got a few good results so far:

This is a great shot. Looks like your project is going well but cant help but think a bit of processing would give some different images, more black and white contrast - thats my personal preference for black and white.

Congratulations on the published pictures, they look great, very proffesional.

Tommy - Picasa from Google is not bad for free - it's a bit limited, but considering it's gratis, you can't grumble..

Magnakai - well done on the published shots - as said, they look very good.

Cheers guys Tis always nice seeing your work in situ.

Good luck Dan, that sound like it'd be a lot of fun!

Garf, that swing shot's really nice.

Winky, I quite like the softer tones. It's less dramatic when viewed small like on this stie, but when I'm looking at them full screen they have a lot of detail and smoothness. Having said that, I have since upped the in-camera contrast a touch, so I'll report back with those results.

Was my Dad's 60th birthday bash on Saturday, so plenty of portrait work (took nearly 700 photos) - like quite a few, but I won't post loads on the thread ( these were taken with my Canon 20D )

Great portraits Marty - I'd like to do more stuff like that, but no-one in my family likes being snapped...
