That last building shot looks smart - good B&W. Not much traffic in this thread recently it seems, be not sad for I have been on my hols and borrowed some Canon L glass for the trip. I eneded up getting my best shots with a cheap Nikkor G 70-300mm though - go figure ...

Hope to see a few more pics in this thread soon

I'm hoping to get a few new ones up soon, I'm still practising with my 550D, I got had my new Sigma 18-200mm lens come yesterday for travelling later in the year, so I have a new toy to play with.

Thanks Marty. Walk under there most days, and always meant to grab a shot.

Nice set yourself, particularly the field (has a great feel about it), and the puffin - excellent capture and superbly timed. The motion in the wings makes it for me.

I keep thinking about upgrading my D40 for something a bit more 'serious', but not sure I can really justify it. I am kinda happy with the shots I am getting lately, (although they could always be better, and I know new kit isn't going to solve that !), but I see lots of people I know upgrading\buying new stuff, and I wonder if it's time for me to move up..

Also, I have some more shots being published in Amateur Photographer magazine next week (issue dated 17th July), which I am pleased about.

Anyway, as requested, here are some more shots - been working on my long exposure technique now I have a proper 10 stop filter..

and another one from my new compact. Loving using the LX3, such great fun..

I wouldn't worry about kit tbh Garf, you're getting some great shots and stuff published in AP already I've tried and they don't want my pics.

The corn shot is with the £1400 L glass (and the B&W), the puffin with the £89 Nikkor and the sunset bridge with a Casio EX-Z850 compact - it's not your kit that matters as much as your eye for a shot.

I don't think the L glass is getting me £1400 worth of better shots.

You're spot on Marty, I just need reminding from time to time that my kit is good enough for me..

I have been lucky enough to get in AP (they sent me the wrong date btw, it's the issue dated 24th July), but I have sent other stuff which they've rejected. I'd keep sending stuff in if I was you, I think it just depends on whether the stuff you send in matches the themes they have in mind..

Like that bike shot EB - very urban

Couple more that I've uploaded to flickr, more bird shots I'm afraid

Then there are these 2 which I'm still trying to process to look just how I want them to look, I'm not quite there yet.

Some cracking photos here. I'm embarrassed to post any of my stuff just yet.

                      Anyway, tripods.

I have an ancient piece of crap that is both heavy AND unstable, thus fulfilling neither of the criteria I demand from a new one. Any recommendations? Needs to carry a fairly heavy camera body (Canon T90) and probably a heavy lens (an old 400mm Canon FD mount once I find one cheap enough). It'll be carried by bme while I'm out walking so nothing too heavy - my heavy camera bag could maybe be hung from it for extra stability.

Some more great shots EB - I really need to live somewhere with better views

Tripods can be pretty expensive, if you're looking for light you're probably going to want to go carbon fibre. Manfrotto do some excellent and very flexible tripods and heads, but they're not cheap. A price range you're looking at would be useful.

An alternative is a monopod, don't dismiss these for travel stuff, perhaps not quite as stable but definitely handy.

Looks like either my connection is playing up or Flickr is broken, unfortunately only half the shots are showing (red x's everywhere!). What I can see look fantastic though. Marty I particularly like your bird shots, having recently tried to get some birds in flight I am very impressed!

I posted a couple in the motorsport thread so I won't repeat them, but a couple from silverstone at the weekend:

                          And a few others...

Thanks Pete - but honestly, if you visit the Farne Islands you won't fail to come away with decent pics - I took about 700 odd so you're bound to get a couple of decent ones in the mix (tho I'm quite picky of what I upload). If you ever get a chance you should visit.

I already commented on flickr of your Arrows pic, all too often people get too close, I think the wide works well showing the smoke trail. Good job.

I don't live there unfortunately, it was on the side of Lake Gen?va.
Here was another one that I randomly got, it reminds me of a graphic novel because of the rain.

You definitely had your eye in that day - it's a pic that tells a story for sure. Fab stuff.
