Rumours are the G12 is getting HD video and a CMOS sensor which should reduce noise.

hey hey. Some great work on display as usual.
Quick question, I'm looking at buying a Hoya 58mm PRO1 Digital Circular PL Filter and a Joby Gorillapod. Any opinions on either of them?
And to keep the pictures flowing here is one of mine from earlier this year. Thoughts? Ways to improve? ( don't be too harsh)

I've got a Gorillapod - not much to say about it except it works exactly as it promises. Sturdy little bugger too - it would probably take some serious punishment to break it (unlike other similar stuff I've had in the past where the legs have gone in next to no time).
In other news, how much fun is it messing around with colour profiles to try and make sure stuff appears as it should?
A whole hour of faffing but I've finally cracked it!

I'm going to Paris in a couple of weeks so if I attach my camera to the top of the Eiffel Tower and it ends up falling off, I'm blaming you...

The new flickr makes things a little more confusing. Click on the picture and in the top right you should see a "View all sizes" link. Click that and select the version you want to link (Probably not too big as it'll stretch the forum - usually best to post a smaller image with a link to the full size one).
Right click on the image and select "Copy image location...", and paste that into here.
The code for posting a picture is (Without the spaces in the square brackets):
[ img]URL to image[ /img]
If you want to post the image and have it link to the main image, it's:
[ url=URL to full image link][ img]URL to image[ /img][ /url]
Example:
Image only:
Thumbnail with link to main image:
(If you quote this post you'll see the tags in action).

after some lense advice if possible, ive a canon 40d, with some nice glass for motorracing and macro, my wife is pregnant with our 3rd child and would love to get a good portrait lense, have a 430exII flash, a nifty fifty lense a sigma 150mm macro and a canon 70-300 is usm, have about ?300 to spend at moment but could save for a couple of months to make it more if its a real good lense.
cheers

You could always trade up from the Canon 50mm 1.8 to Canon's 50mm f/1.4 USM for portrait use.
When I upgraded, the first things I noticed were the much faster focusing from the USM motor (though nowehere near as fast as Canon's ring type USMs) and the much smoother bokeh from having rounded and more aperture blades (8 rounded vs 5 straight). Can be had for around ?250 used or ?300 or so brand new.
