Coming back to this, Engaget are saying that the latest leak has it including

(in the event that the image gets pulled)

a 10 megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom, 2.8-inch tilt-and-swivel LCD, "HD-quality" video recording, optical image stabilization and an inbuilt HDR mode
To say that Canon's PowerShot G11 is growing long in the tooth would be understating things rather dramatically, and with Photokina just a few weeks away, now's as good a time as any to launch a prominent new camera into the world. In fact, Canon just got finished outing a trio of point-and-shoot models, but it seems that Cnet Asia didn't get the memo that a full foursome wouldn't be introduced. The publication's original writeup on the company's new cameras featured a number of G12 mentions throughout the text, and a full-on specifications chart was captured above. If all this is to be believed, we're looking at a 10 megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom, 2.8-inch tilt-and-swivel LCD, "HD-quality" video recording, optical image stabilization and an inbuilt HDR mode, topped off with a pinch of "sheesh, finally!" Obviously, there's no mention of a price or expected launch date, but something tells us that'll change dramatically before we touch down in Köln.

tis the same casing as the G11, same sensor no doubt to. Most likely a bunch of software updates and no hardware changes.

I'm after some buying advice/camera suggestions please...

I currently have an old Olympus C-765 and I'm looking to upgrade to something newer/better/faster etc. My budget is only about £250 though, so I think DSLRs are probably out of reach and I'll have to stick with a compact, but don't have a clue which ones are worth looking at and which should be avoided.

Subject-wise, it'll be my kids, architecture and landscapes. Ideally I'd like something with a half decent optical zoom (6x +), has a B&W mode (I think nearly all do these days though) and one that can be used for macro photos.

£250 would get you a pretty nice Olympus DSLR actually. No macro thoguh without a special lens. best valuse DSLR at the moment (IMO) is the E-600 that you can currently get Olympus Refurb on ebay for £265 with lens.

If it's of any use I'll be selling my canon g9 once I'm back from holiday at the end of September

I've been having fun with my pandora & tried to create a "Retro" themed picture. I've done a fast and dirty mockup of how the picture might have been used in the 1980's.

Why I did this is harder to fathom. But geeks are odd creaturs.

Even harder to fathom is why I clicked on both pictures despite being bored at the mere concept of a retro picture. And then writing to let you know I did it.

                      Nice work Garf!

Can any of you guys reccomend some imaging software? I used to have a PC, but I decided to go for an Imac. I have zero Mac experience, but the computer should be good enough for photo edits.

The thing that really impressed me was that the photos on the screen look like the photos you get from the printer! That sounds daft, but on my laptop the colours don't look anything like the ones we get printed.

I am mostly looking to edit family photos and improve colours, red eye removal etc. I have an EOS D450.

Any tips on a good bit of software appreciated. Currently on PC I used "Gimp."

iPhoto probably came free with the mac. That ought to do the job mate. Otherwise there are various Mac versions of The Gimp. Personally I use Photoshop Elements but you gotta pay for that.

Thanks dude. I'll try the free one first then. Often these free programs are actually best for people with limited knowledge.

Editing pictures on my laptop, especially after i got the DSLR was soooo tedius! Fingers crossed the imac will be a bit quicker! Some filters/process effects are like watching a ZX Spectrum load on my current PC...

What functions of Photoshop Elements do you like the best? Do you have some example photos of how the software helped you?

                          Thanks!

This looks FANSTASTIC! Not expensive either.

                          Cheers for the tip.

                            Cheers guys..

Yep, iPhoto is good for free, as well as Picasa. Always liked the PC version when I used it, although haven't tried it since I moved to a Mac. There is a Mac version now.

I use Aperture 3, but again, that will cost you...

Well, I use it for web development work. Most of the artwork that comes in is in photoshop format so I'm just used to it so I use it for photo editing as well.
