A recap and a question from me.
If anyone remembers a few years back, I was quite enjoying taking a number of gig shots and was trying to get into that on a more regular basis. Well, by luck if nothing else, I have! I will be taking photos for a music website who post huge amounts of reviews and have the capacity to get photo passes for fairly big shows, and I will be sure to post some links up once I start to get some shots online. As you can imagine, I am pretty excited (and a little intimidated) by this.
Secondly, I'm looking to upgrade my gear. I'm currently using a D40x, my key frustration with which being the lack of auto-focus for non-motored lenses. Given the conditions I'll be shooting in, the best results I've had have been with a f/1.8 50mm, yet I spend more time fighting with the focus ring than anything else. I've just bought the Sigma HSM 30mm f/1.4 partly to combat this but partly to give me a different focal length to try too, but I'm thinking that an upgrade to the body is not a bad idea either.
I'd like to stick with Nikon (switching *everything* over would be a nightmare), and am curious as to if the D90 is still a decent recommend. If my sums are right I believe I can get one for just under ?600 with the kit 18-105mm lens, and I'm pretty sure I've got a buyer lined up who'd happily take the D40x + kit lenses (18-55/55-200) + bag off my hands for whatever I asked of him, but I figure about ?250 is a fair price for this. Does this all seem sensible, or is there anything else anyone would recommend? In terms of what I'm getting I looked at the D7000 too, which is a nice piece of kit but unfortunately a little more than I'm looking to spend right now.

Nothing wrong with the D90 (or the D80, D200, D300 for that matter). The D7000 coming out doesn't do anything radically better functionality wise, it just has a slightly better sensor and noise handling. The glass makes far more difference.
?600 sounds reasonable with a kit lens, but don't forget there are second hand bargains about because some folk think (mistakenly) that you have to have the lastest kit to make your photography better: http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/use...ras/?viewall=1

Quick question guys. Hopefully someone in this thread can help me out.
I hired a photographer for my wedding last year and bought the digital files with the package. About a week ago my parents have seen a poster in a hotel, from the same chain as the wedding, which uses one of those photos as the main photo. My wife and I are both in this picture.
I'm not particularly bothered but should they, either the hotel or the photographer, ask permission or does the photographer have permission to sell these to anyone they want?
Thanks for any info.
