    That's really sad

Tiz, keep at it, there's some nice textures in there.

Pete, I can't believe you ripped me off and got the fame, sellout for free though, boo!

    Mag, love it, great shot.

Marty, like the coke glass shot a lot too.

Mag - really love your second and third ones from a page or two back. Colour on the glove stands out brilliantly.

Again, practicing more and more with the 50mm f/1.8... was a bit more keen in terms of getting in close and down low, but as usual, focus = naff in many of them Full load here.

I think this is something I need to delve into more. I've had a quick play and everything I've tried so far has only made things worse, the only thing I could remember reading from the manual was just to slide it up and down until the framing brackets were clear in the viewfinder... Autofocus is sadly not an option, as the lens has no motor so on a D40/x, manual is the only choice.

Those shots are really nice Fuse - I like the Twin Peaks (Black Lodge) style curtains at the back of the stage. Gives a certain edge to the stage. Nice clear shots too.

How many did you take? I usually end up taking about 200-300 shots of a band if I like them, and weed out the crappy ones and keep the keepers!

Also, just out of interest, do you spend a lot of time cropping your shots afterwards or do you try to frame them how you want them to look as you take the shots. I do the latter, and it's actually easier to do that with a 50mm f1.8 lens as certainly, if you are up-close with the camera turned around for portrait-style shots, you don't actually have a lot of room for manouevre anyway!

As always, great shots people (sorry for not doing more individual comments) - do keep up the good work

I should have a few (hundred!) photos to show after my holiday in the U.S. but it'll be another 3 weeks or so before I produce any of those. Hopefully they'll be worth the wait though!

And here lies the abandoned Smoke Room ...

Edit - I got home this evening to find the Landranger maps I ordered had arrived. I think I got the wrong ones because they don't have all the different things shown ( I think these must be on the Explorer maps ).

No matter, instead these show public footways and places of interest and so are probably more useful. I really wasn't totally aware of what was around this area of photographic interest. It turns out there are more woods, waterways and dismantelled railways than I realised. I plan on using these maps to go visit places I wouldn't have ordinarily travelled to - so I think they'll come in handy.

Thats aces, like the sky is taking a nice big gulp!

Walked along the muddy banks of the Thames Estuary last night for a pint in my favorite local pub and my mind was blowing up over some of the shots I want to take - expect lots of pics of mud and old boats . Anyways, got home to find my memory card on the door mat so I am now ready to start messing around! Took a couple of pictures but they weren't up to much tbh - tried out the Macro setting but it refused to take the picture and when I had a go with the Depth of Field the shutter speed was like 4 seconds (I guess it was too dark?) so the picture was very shaky indeed. So much to learn...it better be a nice sunny weekend!!

Good plan on the maps Marty, many a time I have been at a loose end of places to visit and just opened up the OS and found something that looks promising and jumped in the car.

Cheers! They weren't on for too long and I did spend a couple of songs just stood there listening rather than getting shutter-happy, I think I came away with about 60 or so photos and trimming it down to about 10. Probably actually took more but deleted instantly on seeing how out of focus they were. Going to a lot of gigs this month, so presuming I don't get issues with the venues not wanting photography, should get plenty more opportunities to practice

I've not actually cropped any photos I've taken yet with this camera; with the kit lens I'll generally be quite happy framing things up via the zoom, and with the prime as you've said, there's not a whole deal of room for error. Should really start, as I get the feeling a little bit of post-processing could do me a lot of favours...

Loving the sun on the snow MonkeySteve!

Sorry in advance for the geekiness of this pic, my first attempt at sharp focus with a blurred background and this was all I had to hand. Probably a bit too much blur...I do love me some blur tho

Also wanted to check I could link to Flickr (which looks like it works).

Tempted to take my camera into work tomorrow if the sun is out again. Promise I wont post too many of my first attempts from here on out.

GT, that looks like a big straight poo on a plate!

I was out doing some more night shots yesterday but not looked at them yet, will probably post some up tomorrow morning.

I just opened up a Deadpool comic - was trying to make it look like the figure had stepped out from the comic. Thanks for the encouraging words.
