They gave us a new homepage recently - maybe that was throwing things off a bit...?

It's my work laptop, just did it on another machine here and it worked fine, wonder what it could be?

Anyway, I'm a little hesitant to show this yet as it's not finished and is running a temporary gallery widget while I get all custom tech'd up but I thought I'd give you guys a look-see first.

      *Here's hoping it works*

A shoot for this Nobles owner during the week.

Think there'll be a couple more added during the week.

Great stuff Al, were you hanging out of the boot in that first one?

Some pics from my girlfriend during my helicopter lesson yesterday.

Plus some ghetto footage of my 360 degree landing >_<

Alastair - great sense of movement in the first Noble shot - really feels like it's rushing towards you.

Spags - like the 2nd heli shot - great angle.

Few from today's trip to the Zoo..

            Subu

Also like the first noble shot Alastair.

Like the lion Garf - nice textures.

Few from me. Went out with the camera this evening:

Thanks, yes, was sitting in the boot of an MG ZR!! Fun and games!

Is helicopter flying as mental as it seems it would be?

Glad it worked out well, that was definitely the intention. I wanted the background to blur a bit too but we just couldn't get the needed speed on the bumpy surface.

Lion shot is cool, could do with a little work on the B&W conversion maybe to make it stand out a little.

Thanks Ish, loving your first 2 shots there.

                Another from the Noble shoot:

This was a 4 flash set-up for a simple side on shot, why do I bother? This actual shot was taken with a mates 5D (not MkII) with his 28-70 f2.8L strapped to it. Really loved using it and would love to have that set-up. The results were visibly sharper too

Some lovely images there Alastair, really nice. I'm not so keen on the black and white images if i'm honest as I'm not sure they fit well on the overall website, they seem to be lacking something that most of the colour images have. I guess the only thing holding you back now is getting access to lots of supercars!

Says the man sitting in the boot of an MG!! If you've played BF2 its pretty easy tbh

                    Love that first pic Ish!!

Thanks Gareth. Are you talking about the B&W car shots or just any B&W shots?

Getting access to the cars and getting people to pay me to take the shots is what's holding me back!

Nevery thought of it like that, felt quite safe actually, we only made it up to about 30mph!

Just the B&W car shots. They seem to lack the punch and clarity of the colour shots. They are nice photos in themselves but don't do much for the cars. Hope that makes sense?

Know exactly what you mean. There's only one B&W in the auto gallery at the moment. I'm not very happy with the whole Audi series though but am waiting to get a few more in there before I remove them.

Agree, like the water shots Ish.

With regards to the B&W conversion of the lion, if anyone has any tips on mono conversion, I'd appreciate hearing them. To be honest, all I do is apply a Monochrome mixer within Aperture, and then apply a colour filter if needed, so not very scientific.

I do most of my PP in Aperture these days, but I also have Photoshop Elements on the Mac as well. I did just have a play on there and realised that the shot posted is a bit dark, so as I say, any B&W tips are welcome.

A post of mine from nearly a year ago relating to the B&W conversion I use!
If you use Photoshop you could try the following method to convert to BW though.
It's basically the channel mixer that I forget how you get to (Image->Adjustments->Channel Mixer maybe?). Once in the mixer check the monochrome tick box. Slide the bottom slider down by about 10-15 - I think it's called constant or similar, then start playing with the RGB channels. I find that Red on about 60 is a good starting point and the theory is that Green and Blue should then add up to around 100 when combined with Red. It'll depend on each individual image but it's good to play around with and see what you come up with.
Last couple of shots from the Noble shoot....for today
