Thanks mate, it is lovely! That number 14 Garf - the big house nestled in amongst the trees, is that the one you mean? I did PP all the shots and I'm glad you like it Although, having looked at it again, I notice the green filter is a bit OTT (look at the sky/clouds ) - might have to re-visit that one I think? Or did you like the green sky

This wasn't with the new lens unfortunately, that's still in a shop/online store somewhere, waiting for me to buy it (soon, with a bit of luck)! This was with my trusty Nikkor AF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6. However, I am a bit concerned about that lens, as some of the landscape images (including some above) have this little squiggle at the top-left, about a third of the way along at the top of the photo - do you see it? I think I have a hair somewhere on this lens - hopefully it's just a hair trapped in the filter as it is rather annoying!

Sorry to hear you won't be out and about for a while Garf - wishing you a speedy recovery! I trust you have plenty of games to keep you occupied?

Sky is a bit green - I put that down to the fact I am using my laptop at the moment rather than the Mac upstairs..

Could that squiggle be dust on the sensor, or does it only appear with that lens ?

Plenty of games ? Did games most of last week, and am pretty much 'gamed' out' now, so turning to studying for an exam for work this week, and also starting to learn Spanish as well - got at least another 2 weeks of being at home so want to make the most of it !

Back to camera stuff, I am hoping to pick up the new Nikkor 35mm lens for my D40 when I am up and running again - looks pretty good..

Dan, that's almost certainly dust on the sensor. It'll only appear at tighter apetures. Have a search around online for how to remove it. There are a few different methods. I've not needed to do it yet - has anyone had any experience?

Yep, I had some dust that I didn't notice til I got back from Schladming recently:

          Got myself this:

5 or 6 puffs later and it was cleared up!

Nah, the sky is green on my MAC too Garf! I think I screwed up a bit there! Will make some adjustments methinks!

Thanks guys, I agree with all of you, having now looked into this a bit more and also had a chat with my boss about it, so have got one of these which should do the trick, very similar to yours FullSpecWarrior! Bit more expensive than yours, but I get free next day delivery with Amazon Prime

Yours is in the shape of a rocket! Easily worth an extra 6 notes lol.

I have the Giottos rocket blower as well..

FullSpecWarrior - nice bright snowboarding shots - nice to see some more blue skies. That said, looks like they might be a bit crooked - the horizon is sloping way off to the left

And apparently, it's the size of a large fist! Massive they say, and not at all the small size you would expect - I imagine yours will be the same too. I'm talking about the Giottos rocket blower, you understand.....nothing else, ok!

So, when I get it, I can use it to blow air into the lens recess in the camera and into the rear end (ooer!) of the lens and this will dislodge any dust on the surface of the sensor right?

There is a guide somewhere online on how to clean the sensor (I'll try and find it), but basically you need to put the camera in mirror lock up mode, hold it upside down, and then point the blower up into the camera (making sure not to touch the sensor itself) and then give it a few good squeezes which should hopefully dislodge the dust.

I did what Garf said and it worked. Do not use a Brillo pad.

@Garf - Lol, it was actually really hard trying to decide what I considered the horizon on those shots (the second shot is me BTW).

This isn't the one I was thinking of, but should give you an idea..

Thanks for the tips and the link guys. And right, NO Brillo Pads.....does that mean NO wire wool either?

Aw thanks mate, I was really chuffed with it as it came out really well, better than I thought it would in fact!

                              Here's the b+w conversion:

I do think I prefer the colour version, mainly because you can see the blue sky in the water, but I'm quite pleased with the mono too - looks kinda spooky!

Bored at home waiting for my stupid knee to get better, so I grabbed some of my son's toys and started snapping away - made this so far..

                                Why So Serious ?

I've always used Aperture for my PP stuff, but have been playing with Lightroom 2, and am very impressed - am tempted to make the switch - I guess I have plenty of time to reimport everything back into Lightroom..
