      Hi Mike,

How have you converted these to b+w? Or did you use the camera's b+w setting?

What method did you use? The 'convert to b+w' option?

An experiment with the David Byrne photo from the previous page

Well, I don't think they are bad shots by any means, they only thing that I would say is that with b+w shots, it helps to have dark AND light coloured subjects in the photo. In your shots, it's difficult to see what is what, as they are no light colours to be the 'w' in the b+w - do you get what I mean?

I was asking about your conversion methods as I am always interested in other people's methods. I tend to increase the blue filter and then lower the saturation to a level I am happy with. I'll also adjust the exposure, fill light and contrast to attempt to get a good b+w balance. Sometimes I get it right, and sometimes I get it wrong, so practice makes perfect and all that

Dan - might have mentioned this before, but there is a plugin/application from Nik Software called Silver Efex Pro, which is very, very good for B&W conversions.

I think it can installed as a standalone product, but it is also a plugin for either Aperture or Lightroom - it's quite pricey, but it does give good results...

You might want to try Costco (near StarCity), I'm sure you'd find someone who's a member there. I'm sure it was around 5p per print the last time I went (went in with a colleague - who is a member)
