        first ever?

You had much experience with a compact? I wish my first ever DSLR shots looked that good which camera did you use?

Well I buckled again and bought a 550D. I was missing my DSLR, the G9 is great and my girlfriend will look after that.

Thanks guys! I totally forgot about this thread!

Daragon: yeah, those are some of my first. I grabbed my dad's DSLR a few years ago but didn't have a lot of enthusiasm for it. But after grappling with compact 1080i video camcorders with fixed lenses, I have a newfound appreciation for being able to control depth of field and such.

The camera is a Canon 550D with the kit lens. I'm not into photography enough yet to be irritated by the stock lens, and 700 all inc was a bargain for me. In fact since I'm so involved with video, I'm amazed at the resolution of even a mid-range DSLR like this.

Crucially, I shot RAW. It's very, very forgiving. They didn't look a lot like that out of the camera. My image processing side forbids me from shooting JPEG.

I've known about basic concepts like aperture, shutter speed etc., but I don't really learn without visuals so I'm finally starting to understand how they all came together until now, since the camera (in manual mode) is no longer holding my hand.

I'm new to using Flickr and someone here might be able to help me with a question.

What's the deal with Flickr and group uploads? I added a photo to a group yesterday and it shows up when I'm logged in, but if I'm not then there's no sign of it in that group.

                    Am I missing something?

The photo may have it's privacy setting on friends and contacts only

Double checked that and it's set to everyone.

It's odd because if it had been removed from the group for some reason it wouldn't show up there for me (and I assume you get a message or something?).

Not that it should have been removed, it's relevant to that particular group.

I'll have a better look when I'm on a PC, only other thing I can think is that a moderator has to vet all photos.

Here is one I processed last night for that tilt shift look

That really does look like a model.

I've added the image to another related group and it's not showing up there either. I've no idea what's going on.
