Reminder: Always keep your light tidy.

I'll do it again tonight though - the thirty second exposure meant I rushed every step (there were about three in the shot), if I stick it on Bulb I should be able to get more creative. Hopefully my remote shutter will allow me to use that mode.

Unfortunately I'm working early (hence me posting at 7am) at the moment and it means staying up until 11pm until it gets dark!

Good effort Pete, looks like what you were going for and the fact your hand wasn't there for more than 10 secs is impressive as there is hardly any ghosting. Good job. Looking forward to the next attempt.

I tried an experiment yesterday evening with my cheap ass ?20 digital camera ... except it didn't work particularly - it's suppose to be a kind of "Photo Blog of a Trip" kind of thing, so every single photo I took on the way there and back, I uploaded ( to Picassa Web Albums rather than spoiler my flickr account though ) - http://picasaweb.google.com/martypg/WalkToTheGarage

That's a really cool idea Marty, I think it works as a blog. A lot of potential, particularly if you were going to a particular event or special location.

A very long shutter speed (about a minute) taken in a pitch black room, all the lighting is done via a torch.

If you quickly 'draw' with a torch facing a camera on a long shutter speed (in darknes!), this is the effect.

It's very easy to do, but the difficult part is getting everything in the right place. After all - you are drawing 'nothing' on 'nothing'!

The comments people on the hit, miss, maybe, WHY group for the first pic are stupid. They obviously don't understand what the process is and what you wanted to achieve. I love it!

Looks good pete, i like the way the light actually looks like a animated character.

If it's not a picture of a flower or cat or sunset, it'll be a miss. You also have to make sure you don't border or crop the photo widescreen style ... then you'll be fine

The irony of a crap pirate in Penzance was lost on them ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/martypg13/179122632/

You truly sound bitter from experience

I like 'angry flags' though, maybe you should pimp that around a bit.

Nah - I take the comments given on flickr with a pinch of salt - some people just don't have any vision

I like the angry flags pic too - obviously I did some post processing on it, upped the reds a little, to make the sky that colour - I might pimp that one later.

                              I'm currently pimping a pic in this group ( pic #26 ): http://www.flickr.com/groups/flickrs...7594194154284/
which I hope will get more than one vote this time. Mind, getting one vote in the "Sunshine" competition is quite a complement given how good some of those photos are.

I am a little disappointed in flickr, it started out so well for me but now I'm surprised how short-sighted people can be. As you say, if it isn't a sunset or colourful macro then it isn't a great shot.

Are you aware of any useful groups to join?

That Kees group looks good Marty, might have a go at that
