This threads been a little quieter the last week - I have been taking photos most days, just nothing I've found particularly worth of posting recently. I got yet another spider photo ( hey I like them ) - but this one I liked because of the spider set in dew laiden web. It's a crop, I had a lot more dead space on the left on this one, changed it with cropping from a landscape to portrait.

I've got to admit to being in a bit of a slump the last couple of weeks. Feel like I've taken shots of everything I want to at home and have run out of ideas for things local to me.

I do have one idea for a night shot but it's not in the 'safest' area of Brighton and I don't fancy getting mugged while there. I might wait till the nights draw in more to get that one a bit earlier in the day.

Not been doing any interesting trips recently either so I've not actually touched the cam in 2 weeks

Spagoli, have you uploaded anything yet for us to take a look at?

Thanks for the earlier tip. Joined flickr. Only got a few pics on there as I've only got a few pics. Did the usual cliche things up close but still so far been fun.
Anyone wante to tell me just how poor they are feel free the links http://www.flickr.com/photos/91308681@N00/ that said I quite like the Bee one!

The bee's good dude, as are the others. You're a natural I think. You've been taking pictures before you got the 30D right?

Thanks, no just thought it would be fun and was inspired by some of the pics people posted so thought why not. Think that next I may have to invest in some software to play with the images a bit maybe something like photoshop. Some of the pics on here are great, I struggle to get richness of colour a bit I guess thats the point of practice.

                  lol that lens looks awesome!

Spagoli, you have some very nice shots, look forward to seeing more soon

I've been in a complete photography slump recently. Hurumph. I got an idea in my head about a nighttime shot, but it could well involve getting arrested for tresspassing (and would be very difficult to explain!) - unfortunately until I get that shot out of the way I can't seem to move on!

I got my self a Holgaroid the other day...its a holga (cheap, plastic lens camera) with a special polaroid back that can be put on instead of using standard film...great fun to use and really opens you up to enjoying shooting.
The holga is so cheap that many people have a few so that they can 'mod' them (for extra f stops etc).

                    Lots of light leaks +
                    flaky framing +
                    crap lens +
two shutter speeds (bulb or 1/125) and two f-stops (f-11 and f16 I think)
                    =
Great fun, unpredictable but sometimes beautiful/interesting images!

I saw a review of them in a mag about a month ago, read pretty much like your review, on the one hand the cover shot was taken with one, pinpoint sharpness in the centre and a nice soft image round the edges, the flip side being that they have a tendency to produce less than consistent results. I think it said you could pick up a boxed one for ?20 for a bit more you got one with built in filters!

i've not been keeping up to speed in the world of cameras... i'm now after a digital slr and have about ?500 to invest in one.

i've already got a 35mm canon slr which is fantastic, easy to use and gives cracking results easily. so i'd be after something which has a superb 'point and shoot' performance and maybe something which can reel off shots within a short space of time as i want to take some shots of my mates biking.

                        cheers.

*edit: seeing as i already have a canon eos 300v, if i bought a canon body, is it true i could just whack on my existing lens? it's not a bad quality one at all, plus i've got a fisheye attachment for it.

Yes, all EF lenses can fit on all EOS bodies. However: Canon makes two different kinds of lenses and digital cameras. Digital cameras that have a full-size CMOS sensor (the EOS-1D line and the EOS-5D) only accept EF lenses, all other digital cameras (300D, 350D, 400D, 20D, 30D or the old D10 and D30) use a cropped CMOS sensor and can accept both EF and EF-S lenses.
As you might have guessed, the Canon lens line is divided into EF and EF-S lenses. EF-S lenses are specifically designed for low-to-medium end digital cameras, while EF lenses are often the best Canon offer and can be mounted on any EOS body.
Now, I don't know if EF-S lens actually don't fit full frame cameras (all film bodies and the 1D line and the 5D), but if they do you'll have heavy vignetting and probably even entire portions of image missing, as the EF-S lens imagining circle is smaller than the camera sensor (or film).
Pratical example: the EF 100 f/2.8 macro USM can fit on the EOS 300V (standard film camera), the 350D (digital camera, cropped sensor) and 5D (digital camera, full frame sensor).
The EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM can fit on the 350D or the 30D (digital cameras, corpped sensors) but not on the 300V (standard film camera) or on the 1Ds Mk.II (digital camera, full frame sensor).

The EF-S lens wont fit apparantly as the design of the Len sticks inside the body a little bit. On full frame cameras the mirror hits the rear of the lens.

I think EF lenses are a worthwhile purchase as no doubt the cost of FF bodies, like the 5D, are going to drop at some point in the future, so unless Canon decides to change the mount, your EF lenses will be good for years to come.

ok guys was my brothers wedding this wknd and i think i got some quite good shots. couldnt really afford to get him a wedding present but thought some of the shots enlarged on canvas might be nice.

think they need a little touching up in photoshop but not sure what to do with them. ill post the originals and a couple that ive done in ps and any comments and criticisms would be appreciated.
