I know. I think the front page tells you how many uploads per minute. On one occasion it was over 4,000 pics!!

I reckon its time (ish) to get another lens I use a 30d (not that often to be honest) and have the standard 18-55 lens it came with and the 60mm macro I'd like to get a 70-something zoom, has anyone got any quality recomendations other than the 70-200L Alastair has, great lens but not sure I can justify it, unless there are no other erally credible contenders or if the difference is so big. I dont want to have to upgrade later if I like it but its not great. Any recommendations?

There's obviously a reason why I upgraded after only 7 months of ownership of the Tamron 70-300, read the comments on this pic for an explanation as to why, that seems to go for the Sigma version as well which is practically the same lens.

I'd not recommend anything other to any canon user now as the difference is that big.

I do have an old 80-200 (I think) Canon lens you can buy cheap if you want to have a look-see what they are like though.

Go L and you will never look back. Your wallet won't thank you though!

In other news, I had another play with a 1Dmk III today. Damn, I want that camera. I don't know why but I just do....

Can I have your 30D when you get the 1D then Richard?

Could probably stretch to 200 yen or so!

I know that feeling, though I'll wait for the initial rush and the inevitable price drop.

I'll have my first batch of pictures for you folks on Monday. I'm off to seni for the weekend and intend to practise lots at my fast moving, low light photography. Hopefully ExCel will be better lit than the NEC was last year, but I've been playing around with exposure and metering (re: learning how to actually use it!) and have now dedicated an AE lock button on the back of my D40. I'm still going to be using TTL to do it, but I'm getting there!

I think the first few hours are going to be spent balancing along the line of High ISO/Low noise. 3 Gigs to fill though, snap snap snap

You shoot RAW right Babs? You'll be able to save a lot of underexposed shots if you do and that will allow you to use a higher shutter speed. There's no shame in correcting the shot away from the camera.

The 1D lust is odd as it doesn't practically offer anything over my 30D apart from the higher fps. The viewfinder is to die for though and it just feels right. I am really considering whether I will skip the 5D line next time and go for a bit of 1.3 crop, 1D action. Of course by the time I am in the position to buy one, the successor will be just around the corner. My wife is the problem. How do you convince someone who has never used anything other than a compact, that a 2K GBP uber camera is worth the price?

Ken Rockwell has put up a table of lens compatibility for the D40, which might be useful for D40 users: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40...nce.htm#lenses

I took the advice you have been giving me gentlemen - about percentages - and yesterday, I went to Lavenham and took nearly 300 photos in which only 30 (10%) made it onto my flickr account.

How devilishly hard is it to continuously cut down the number of photos once you think you are happy with half of them? I took most of this morning sorting them out and am reasonably pleased with my results despite being a rather dull throughout the day.

I think these three are my favourites:

Thanks for the guide Marty, I have just bookmarked it for reading later on.

Just promise to buy her dresses, shoes or holidays. Tends to keep em quiet. I brought her a car, so she doesn't moan about my purchases atm.

Plus it's an uber gadget, it just has to be bought.
