Thats why I asked - the digital ones do seem very expensive. I've considered going the cable route but the range of movement is so limited and I don't really do enough night photography to justify the expense of the "full solution".

You can switch the flash into manual mode so maybe this is worth considering.

I'm off to kew gardens tomorrow with my sister and am going to try and take things more "seriously" and get a sequence of shots out of it. I got enough WOMAD shots to make a decent photobook out of it and thats really got me enthused

Anyway - looking forward to more shots from your project Alastair

KEW is ace (incidentally I get in free +1 through work ), Melissa is a gardener so I've visited quite a lot. Head out the back to the copse bit (I think that's right) and there is a lot of wildlife. Sure there'll be lots of beautiful flowers and foliage too at the moment due to all the rain and relative warmth recently. The copper bridge over the big long lake is cool too but may have too many people on it at the mo.

One bad thing is that it'll be PACKED being school holidays, you'll still have a good time though, looking forward to the shots.

And yes, chuck the flash onto manual, remember to keep the shutter below 1/250 and you're away with the cheapo ebay kit.

Bloody kids should be banned. Think of the good it would do the environment

I've got a plug-in for Aperture to do the flickr uploading but for some reason I always use the browser. Don't know why. Force of habit perhaps.

Finished my photo book this evening and sent off a print order. Reasonably happy. Took quite a long time to pull together.

I'll post a pdf somewhere at some point if anyones interested - though its a 77Mb file.

Picked this up from eBay on the cheap. Cost £7 including the postage. It'll fire quite a range of cameras, and works well with my Nikon D50 and Olympus 2040Z and 5050Z nice.

Just got back from Kew. What an awesome place - I'll definetly be going back. Didn't do as well as I'd have liked but I spent most of my time helping my sister understand her camera and how to use it + some basic tips on composition etc. Loaned her my lenses too... was quite rewarding actually.

Hopefully I got some decent shots too

Will upload the book this evening.

Couldn't resist having a peek tonight. Here's one that leapt out at me. Credit to the leaf as this is pretty much straight off the camera.

Few more from my trip to Kew:

                            (my sister)

I only saw a small fraction of the place really and will definetly be going back.

Where is this place you speak of Ish? I'll comment on your great photos on flickr as usual!

This photo album / book of yours - I'm very interested too.

ET - its Kew Gardens in London. Fabulous place. You could spend ages in there. There's a late evening open night next Friday - I'm very tempted to head down there and make the most of some late evening light.
