Pete, how'd the job go?

Great pic again btw.

Job went ok - a local golf club wanted promotional shots of their building and grounds (but not the course!), but unfortunately most of the good rooms were in use and it started pissing down when I got there! Took about 70 shots and 17 came out ok. They are all really dull shots as it's hard to make a conference room look exciting (and even if you did, it wasn't the kind of thing they were after ).

Made me realise how crap my equipment is though, I really need a good wide angle and a good telephoto.

Here's a tilt-shift effect shot I just did.

It looks like a model village but is actually a photo of a real place (Zermatt in Switzerland).

Wow! That's excellent! Is all the depth of field natural to the photo? It's such a sharp line at the top, by the cross.

As always, there's been some fantastic stuff over the last couple of pages.

I just went away on a cruise (!) for two weeks (!) around the Baltic region (!) and took tons of photos.

This one's definitely better bigger, though I think they all are.

Please take a look at the full sets too if you have the inclination. I haven't really processed them very much, just passed them all through Lightroom.

Magnakai, love the two black and white images.

Mr Ono...amazing, really looks like a model! The only slightly weird bit is that the cross (and the landscape just around it) is so sharply in focus.

Thanks for the comments on the "model village".

The original photo taken in the stunning Alps town of Zermatt is HERE.

The reason for the in focused cross was deliberate but I do agree it spoils the illusion slightly.

Tilt and shift is a very easy technique to do as it is just blurring to narrow the field of vision thus creating the optical illusion. Bumping the colours to give a more artificial appearance also helps as does using a subject which one would normally associate with models - eg. villages, trains and cars.

Got an opportunity to shoot some models yesterday, I was way out of my depth but I was hardly going to say no, right? First time I've tried to do this kind of thing, I was completely stranded when talking them into poses

I haven't done much so far this w/e - the usual trip around the backgarden but that's about it.

Tell me about it! Most of them travelled down especially. Not in my league doesn't even come close

When I was out taking this shot the organiser for a fashion event approached me and a mate and asked us to go along. I almost didn't go actually as I thought it'd be a bit...naff, but as it turns out I quite enjoyed it!
