Thanks - I haven't paid much notice of someone who's contributed precisely zero photographs and two posts in 3691 posts to such a long running thread

DS has a history of anomisity towards me because I censored his ass as a moderator ( he'd also like to run me over with his car whilst I'm on my motorcycle if I remember correctly ) - if anyone else had posted that photo I sincerely doubt that particular comment had of been posted.

The fact he dislikes it makes me like it all the more

I like that 2nd pic a lot Richard, it's nicely framed and I like the way the background is almost monochromed.

Pity about the firework photos Dan, they're not easy to capture - I like that third pic, it gives a good feel of the fair.

Cheers Marty, I like the carousel shot the best personally. And I also like that graveyard photo of yours and did think that DS's comments were way off the mark.

I like the carousel pic, but I feel that the horse is just too much in shadow - did you not use a fill flash?

Use a what-now?! I only have small array of camera accessories and no flash other than that attached to my D200. Yeah the head is a bit too dark but I like the overall effect of the shot - wife said it was a bit Face Off, which is right

You can use a fill flash with the on-board D200 flash.

Fill flash is using the flash to fill the shadows that you get when the sun or other light source is lighting the scene. It's to get an even light source - hence fill.

You might also want to look up rear curtain sync flash.

Ah ok, novice (still) here! I'll check out how to do fill flash, so thank you

Great shots funkydan - I particularly like the final one.

Thanks dude, it was on the side of one of the nauseating fairground rides!

I actually posted as a parody of many many of you critiques of others photos. Good to see you didn't take it to heart..........

                          Ordered myself a 580ex flash and a 24-105 f4 lens (first L series )!

My previous flash (430ex) had a little accident at a wedding and having struggled through another wedding this weekend I decided to bite the bullet. I attempted to fix the flash but couldn't get it back together so well - as soon as I attached it to my camera the whole thing fell apart!Ended up running down to woolworths to buy some (bight red...) electrical tape to hold the thing together. Nothing like appearing professional eh?

I really need to get out in the evening, the trees are really pretty this year and there have been some stunning sunsets.

Funkydan, really like them shots, they all have a great atmosphere. They look...edgey, like a still from a horror film. What kind of settings were you using? I've never done well with night photography.

Of course you did dear, that totally and accurately parodies all my comments in this thread - keep up the good work.

Enjoy, both are very nice! (well the 580EX mk II is, assume the Mk1 is too!)

Do you still have the 430? As it might still work as a slave unit off the 580.

Dirty Sanchez, if you don't have anything constructive to say about someones pictures/posts please save yourself the trouble of posting.
