Long story but basically last time I went there to do some work they refused me (and my business partner) entry after a nice 5 hour grilling about tax and other things.

As a result I have lost my rights to use visa waiver ever again and am not eligible to use a Visa without going through some lengthy pre-visa verification procedure. All the more annoying as it seems (having spoken to the embassy advice line, at a cost of £45 phone call) that we did nothing wrong. It also cost me (and the company I co-owned at the time) a lot of money in lost revenue. I had already started really hating going to work in the states and this was pretty much the final straw. Even if i could get a work visa I'm not sure I could be arsed with the hassle anymore.

All in all it was another low-point in what was the strangest year of my life! Nearly over now though and all on the up...at last. LOL.

Nope, not NYC - but a 10 day tour of the West Coast (San Francisco, Yosemite, Central California, Vegas, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, LA) - should be amazing and thanks for swaying my mind fella's, as I will now be taking the D200 - YAY! Will probably look into specialist insurance - any recommendations?

I just extended my camera cover through my home insurer. Not cheap but covers all my gear and I got to specify that if my R-D1 broke it would be replaced with another Leica M8, etc. All very good.

Does that cover you at home and abroad too?

Mine does, yes. But you need to specify it. You also need to specify if you want cover for when it is left in a car etc.

Like I said, its not cheap, but worth every penny. Especially as I have a load of second hand lenses that would cost thousands to replace new which is what my cover allows.

Unusual pose Alastair. Relaxed look, but the hand in the bottom right doesn't seem right. Nice light without any harsh shadows.

I like the sign. Nice contrast between the different surfaces.

I agree GT, I wanted to crop out the hand at the bottom but she likes it better left as shot and what the boss says goes round my house!

Another nice scan, can see scan lines on that one I think in the dark water at the bottom though.

I can't see the scan lines (though i'm on a work monitor at the moment). Though I do recall some banding when looking close up on the full size image. Maybe the conversion to 8bit has made them worse. Think I may have to calibrate my monitor(s)!

Oh, always best to do what the boss says.

They only show on my laptop screen here (which is overly bright), not the CRT, probably not a problem on a calibrated screen but I'd have to check that at home!
