Another day, another curry! I don't use ghee so I had the curry, rice and nann for the princely cost of 715 calories

Chicken Tikka Massala with Saffron Rice (from scratch)

That looks really nice evil, how spicy was it?

On friday i was shopping in sainsburys & i was gobsmacked not only to find that they sell curry blocks on the posh international foods isle. I also went down the section where the breadcrumbs are kept & there was panko breadcrumbs. I use the expression "was" literally, as i totally cleaned out their shelf there was no more panko for anyone else in moortown LOL.

Aaaanyway today i made more korokke but with the proper coating this time, my GOD the difference in crunch crispy coating was totally different. Took a few pics in progress this time around.

^^^ it was good mate not too spicy at all could fish out the recipe for you.

You cleared them out of Panko? Ha ha nice one matey. All the supermarkets near me have carried them for a while usually get mine from the tesco ingredient range as cheaper

Guess in spoilt as there is a decent Asian supermarket close to me but a belting couple in Newcastle a bit further away that tend to do everything under the sun, I dare not take a picture of my pantry for the contraband it contains oh if spices was still a currency

What flavour Korokke is that? Looks good! I trust that is Bulldog Tonkatsu on it too (yum)

Tesco's have them in their own brand now, we stock up reguarly for Katsu Curry. I'd been using what I guess you could describe as a curry block to make the sauce, it's cheaper than a watery bottle of it.

LOL guess which one of us 3 doesn't live anywhere near tesco, thats handy to know that they have them in there too. The korokke were beef ones, the beef is fried with diced onion in a bit of butter & a bayleaf then you add a tablespoon of soy & sugar & fry till it's reduced then mix into the mashed potato then you add 3 tablespoons of cream and mix it all together then coat fro frying, i used jersey double thick cream as i was feeing luxurious lol. Yup thats tonkatsu sause on them, nothing else tastes as good on top.

Yup boris if it looks like a block of chocolate but made out of spices then you are using curry blocks, they are really handy to have around as they thicken stuff up too.

It's like a giant slab of hard dried out curry paste, I think mine is labeled as being chip shop style

This is the best Katsu sauce any Chinese supermarket should have (it is the wagamama one)

Ah golden curry indeed the finest usually the one i go for, a close runner up is Vermont curry blocks.

Would it work with quorn do you think?

Waitrose sell Panko too and I think I have seen it in Asda once or twice if I ever cant get it there is an easy solution, crunched up cornflakes I use a hybrid coating on mine which is cornflake, Panko and Stale Sourdough breadcrumbs.. Hungry now

It looks a totally different colour to Wagamama in that picture, this is the one I've been getting. I'll keep my eye out for that one though
Does the job nicely. Bet they all taste the same

I use Wing Yip for my katsu curry sauce. It's nice enough as is but I add some ginger, five spice and a dash of soy sauce to it.

Gonna be making ramen tonight. It'll be Olympic-themed somehow, maybe five rings of onion floating on top. Was considering getting food colouring and having the rings the proper colours but that'd turn nasty quickly I bet.

Going with beef and egg as the mains.
