    ??

Reading the reviews at the bottom, it sounds like my type of beer:

"Palate is extremely spicy, fresh grapefruit, pale malt, a bit of alcoholic burn to it even at 4.8%. Pure taste buds suggest it is on the sweet side with a hint of sourness. Low carbonation - a bit watery too. Finishes on lots of grapefruit, fresh hops, alcohol. Very simple but effective. I like it."

I think you should send me a bottle!

      Too more bevs today:

      Westoe IPA
      Consett Ale Works Blast

As usual, thoroughly enjoyed them both. Blast had a toffee taste and Westoe was a beezer quaffer.

can personally recommend the camra St Albans beer fest, last day today (sat).

had a v pleasant arvo yesterday stood out on their first floor balcony, watching the world go by, supping a damn fine Hecks 6.5% scrumpy cider.

over 300 different brews on offer ans nice aassortment of pasties/burgers, worth the £2 entry fee I paid !

Few pints last night. All Burton Bridge - XL, Bitter and Stairway to Heaven. I'm particularly a fan of the latter.

Bedford Beer Festival next week. I have the fear. I've got two days off to sample its delights but I've not been drinking lately - its going to slay me.

            Two glorious pints today -

            Consett Aleworks White Hot - 4% 9/10
            Jarrow Brewery Caulker - 4.2% 8.5/10

Why does a weekend have to be ruined by a Monday at the end of it?

So, did any of you Norfolk/Suffolk/Lincs/wherever else is near boys get to the Norwich Beer Festival then? Plough Boy and I travelled down from Durham on Monday morning and started to queue outside at about 4.45pm.

Less than an hour later, we were inside warming our cock(le)s with high quality beers! I had 8 different halves and sampled at least 15 others. I also managed to get 6 bar towels and a selection of beer mats and pump clips from the merchandise stand. As usual, the atmosphere was superb, there was loads of variety and no trouble whatsoever. I was well impressed when the old guy on the organ started playing the theme tunes to Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones.

Next day, we set off to Morrison's outside Carrow Road where I got a bottle of Golden Newt. Next, we stopped off near the courts and walked to Tipples Brewery shop - another 8 bottles purchased! After a couple of swift halves in the Wig and Pen (at last - Wherry from the cask!) we set off home via Beers of Europe in King's Lynn. 15 bottles and 3 glasses added to the stash! As a final act, we nipped into Sainsbury's at Durham and found the boxed bottle of Innis & Gunn's Rum beer.

All in all a superb couple of days! If anyone lives near, go! It's only a few quid entrance and has over 200 beers, with loads of ciders and continental bottled beers too. It's on for another couple of days I think.

Stoke beer festival started last night (Wed 5/11), a little later in the year than normal, and is on until Saturday night - beer list can be found at http://www.camrapotteries.co.uk/Beer

I'm heading over on Friday night - looking forward to it, and hoping that there's some Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby on when I get there :-)

I've been hitting the Wetherspoons Beer Festival daily.

                  So far

                  Abbots Ale
                  Smokie Pete
                  Fuggles
                  Plum Beer
                  Liberation
                  Firestone IPA

Pick of the bunch so far has been Liberation, nice and malty with a gentle bitterness, a full mouth feel with not too flowery hop aftertaste.

I'm going to the Edinburgh Craft Brewers Bring and Taste session in a couple of weeks, I've got a fresh IPA to take along. It's a bit raw at the mo but once I chill it down a touch it should hit the spot.

Good work chaps. Was that Thwaites Liberation. Dirty Sanchez?

SeattleStokie - Try Harviestoun Schiehallion, it's a well tasty number. You might want to try one of the Mordue ones too, they're in administration and may go tits. Looks like a top beer list!

                      Aye, Thwaites Liberation, excellent brew.

                      Full list here http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/promo...-ale-festival/

Last night I had a Vikings Return (too bitter really, poor balance of hops) and a Hydes Mumbo Jumbo. This was class, a real dark beast of a beer, malty but dry finish. Well worth a crack at.

So on June 16th (the day my daughter was born) I consumed my 1000th beer having started the quest in February 2007. Hop & Kisses by Geltside. It's been a hell of a ride. Did 365 beers in 07, 475 in 08 and the remaining 160 up to June. My pace slowed at the end due to wanting to have that beer as 1000 on the necessary day.

I've had some great beers, too many to mention in full but my stand outs have been:
                          Cask: Westoe IPA - Jarrow.
                          Ginger Marble - Manchester Marble
                          Wherry - Woodforde's
                          Hawkshead Bitter - Hawkshead

                          Bottle: Bah Humbug - Wychwood
                          Firestoker - Marstons
                          Ginger - Tipples
                          Bede's Chalice - Durham

I raise my glass to prinnysquad and vanpeebles who set me the challenge and brought me back to a world of taste. Cheers.

Hmm very interesting thread, just what I need when I am trying to give up the drink lol.

But Im sure I can maintain that this is respectable drinking and shall take up a real ale hobby now.

Some very funny post's in this thread from prinny and VP - I can just imagine what sampling beers with you guys is like - lol.

                            Pointers for a noob guys .... ?

I love and hate this thread with equal amounts.
I love it because of the love of real ale, but hate it because I still live in London where real ale always tastes like ****e. The people down here have no idea of how to pull a decent pint. Even the off licenses are rubbish. The ale seems to be nowt but John Smiths. At least the thresher near me sells Tangle Foot.
